About this trip

This pilgrimage back to the last door some of our ancestors crossed on the motherland, is a very special journey which will be filled with emotions, laughs & memories.  As much as we'd love to bring everyone on this epic experience, we KNOW that traveling to some parts of the world where some of the basic necessities we enjoy at home are luxuries, is NOT for everyone!

In the words of Anthony Bourdain "Senegal, an African nation which is over 90% Muslim, serve as both rebuke and example. It is a country that proudly elected as their first president after independence, a Christian—because they felt, in their best judgment, that regardless of his faith, he was the best person for the job.

It is a country that defies stereotypes and expectations at every turn.

Emerging from French colonial times as a functioning multicultural, multilingual, extraordinarily tolerant society.

It has managed to avoid coups, tribal wars, dictatorships and most of the ills that have afflicted so many of its neighbors and remains an absolutely enchanting place to visit, with delicious food, absolutely extraordinarily beautiful music, and a relatively free and easy attitude towards intermarriage, mixed-race and inter-tribal relationships, and foreign visitors.

It has a powerful and proud tradition of hospitality that endures to this day. Senegal is one of the best arguments for travel I can think of. The more we see of the world, the more we actually meet who we are talking about—take a walk, however briefly, in their shoes, the more we see how other people live, find ourselves—as so often and so inevitably happens—as recipients of random acts of hospitality and kindness from total strangers—then the better we shall be. And the happier we will be. Knowledge of, or exposure to, the “other” is not a contaminant—it enriches us. It makes—or should make us—more humble. Senegal. It’s someplace that everyone, given the chance, should go."

Who is this trip for?

This is for you if you easily adjust in social settings, you go with the flow and make the most of any situations, you're comfortable "trooping it" if needs be, you don't have super strict dietary needs and you fit in easily everywhere you go.

This trip is NOT for you if:

If you cannot get used to unexpected changes or expect first world infrastructures in "third world" countries or If you lack patience & have issues with tipping.  it is also recommended to have the Yellow fever vaccine in order to participate on this trip.

I had such an amazing time! Thank you so much Haitian Nomad for exposing me to the beauty of Marrakech. I thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality, the food, the new friendships formed (Caribbean Massive!!!!), the exquisite attention to detail and the local experiences we shared. I felt like more than a tourist, but for a brief time, it felt like I was a part of the local community. I enjoyed getting to know the locals and seeing and interacting with the staff, tour guides, vendors and neighbors in the Medina. It really made the trip feel authentic, and not just a vacation, but an experience. I have to get my fast fingers ready to buy into the next trip. They go quickly, so don't sleep :) I highly recommend Haitian Nomad and I'll definitely return!!

Kenya was so dope and I look forward to visiting again in the future. As usual, traveling with Haitian Nomad is worry free and we were kept abreast of the things we needed to know to complete the trip. It was cool to visit Tanzania with the group as well.

This was yet another amazing Haitian Nomad trip! Getting to see two countries in one trip was awesome! The Haitian Nomad put together a great itinerary that included enough time to recuperate after a long journey to Zanzibar and Kenya was such a vibe! Zanzibar is a beautiful place and our guide Steven was very knowledgeable and helpful! Even with all the covid testing we had to do, the Haitian Nomad was on top of making sure we were able to get tests done in a timely manner and get results back in time for traveling from Zanzibar to Kenya. The safari was a dream come true for me and being able to go to the Giraffe Center and elephant sanctuary were added bonuses! Our guide George in Kenya was also amazing!! The group we traveled with was amazing and rolled with the few bumps we encountered which made the trip even better! We truly love traveling with the Haitian Nomad because all we have to do is pack our bags and show up! He takes care of the rest! We highly recommend booking your next trip with him so that you can create beautiful memories while traveling the world!! 🥰

This was my first group trip & based on so many great reviews I decided to book with Haitian Nomad. Richard is very professional, courteous, friendly and always has a smile on his face . He makes everything look so easy. I not only enjoyed myself, but I gained new friendships and learned so much about the culture & history of the countries we visited. The experience is what I lived for and would definitely travel with Haitian Nomad in the future.

I have been traveling with Haitian Nomad since 2016. Within these 4 years they have built themselves a very solid reputation. I have recommended friends who came back with praising reviews. Originally centered on Haiti, they now have a global imprint with well-curated trips to discover the beauty and history of some dope locations. On Richard's trips, careful consideration is always taken for our security as well as our health. We see that illustrated even more in 2020 as we deal with the current pandemic. On our most recent trip, we made sure to be in complete compliance with both the US and Senegal by getting tested for COVID-19 before, during and after our trip. All of us left and came with back with negative results. As a healthcare provider, I felt in trusted hands the whole time and also did not feel that our group was compromising the health of the country we were visiting. The itineraries usually includes a mix of activity and relaxation (sometimes hardcore rejoicing at night lol). The best part is you always leave Richard's trips with unique travel experiences as well as lifelong friendships.

Short Version: Book with him ASAP I cannot recommend the Haitian Nomad enough!! My first trip, we'd returned from Cuba and after the experience, I was thoroughly impressed with Richard's trip. His trips are extremely well planned and a lot of thought and effort was put into ensuring everyone is having the time of their life. Richard pays attention to all the little details, is very organized, and adds a personal touch to the experience that you're not likely to get anywhere else. During our trip to Cuba, Richard organized a wonderful home-cooked rooftop dinner in the city of Trinidad and it was such a fun, unique experience. He made sure to take us around to the sights and helped us if we needed anything while on the trip. Prior to the trip, Richard provided us with all the necessary information leading up to the trip and gave us tips and suggestions on what to expect and other things to do as well. He is also open to feedback on how his service can be improved so he gets an A in customer service from me. Overall, it was the perfect trip and I couldn't have asked for more. So far I've been on about 5 or 6 trips (maybe more) and it exceeds expectations every time!
