Join me on for an unforgettable weeklong yoga retreat in place that almost didn't survive. Cabo Pulmo BCS (Baja California Sur) is a perfect example of what can happen when local community comes together to protect their land and sea. Today, this region is one of the most natural, undeveloped and special places you can escape to........a perfect place for a full mind and body reset. You can expect gorgeous beachfront accommodations, homemade meals served daily, twice daily yoga with Chrissy in a beautiful large open air palapa style shala, fun adventures including snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, hiking and more. You will have plenty of time to relax by the beach, nap on a hammock, or take a day trip to the hot springs and waterfalls nearby. Cabo Pulmo is what Baja might have been like back in the 1970's; very laid back, quiet and peaceful. My goal with this retreat is to give you a space to slow down, unplug, find joy, connect to nature, become inspired by the beauty of this place that the locals have worked so hard to preserve, and remember what is truly important in life. I am beyond excited about this retreat and this location. I hope you can come.
For six nights and seven days, we will be staying in a gorgeous beachfront boutique luxury retreat center just steps away from the finest beach combing, snorkeling and diving area in all of Baja. This space is designed to nurture community, with plenty of beautiful outdoor areas to gather including an al fresco Chef’s Kitchen and dining palapa (where we will be eating all our delicious homemade meals), relaxation lounge, beach deck, plunge pool and hot tub, outdoor rinse showers, sky deck, meditation garden and more. We will practice yoga daily in a beautiful large yoga pavilion with views of the ocean and the mountains. Each completely enclosed room (no bugs!) is beautifully designed with soft linens, towels, and all the modern amenities you will need for a peaceful nights sleep. The Sea of Cortez is known for its warm and gentle waters. You might venture along the beach and find a day boat to take you on a snorkeling or diving adventure, or go on a hike or mountain bike ride. There will be ample time for relaxing in a hammock, reading a book and enjoying the peaceful sounds of the sea. Mexico has always held a very warm place in my heart, and this retreat center is truly the perfect place to connect to the beauty and essence of everything I love about this region.
Just a few hours from the glitz and glam of Los Cabos, Cabo Pulmo feels worlds away. Historically, the town was built on pearl diving and fishing, however, in 1995 it was declared by the Mexican Government as the Parque Nacional Cabo Pulmo (Cabo Pulmo National Park). A decade later, UNESCO declared the area a World Heritage Site. In 2008, it was labelled a RAMSAR Wetland of International Importance. In the past two decades since scientists started studying the area, there has been a 465% growth in life which is extraordinary. People come from all over the world to dive here and for good reason; it's one of the only coral reefs on North America’s west coast, and was labelled by Jacques Cousteau as the ‘aquarium of the world’. Cabo Pulmo houses five out of seven of the world’s sea turtle species, dolphins, sea lions, Mobula rays and seasonal migrations of humpback whales. The area is also home to a huge number of shark species, such as bull sharks, black and white tip reef sharks, dusky and lemon sharks. The reef is full of a variety of fish like groupers, snappers and parrotfish to name a few.
What I love about this place is the authenticity and the deep connection to conservation. The area is tightly regulated to protect the reef, and activities such as commercial fishing are prohibited. The locals have retained control of the tourism industry in Cabo Pulmo, and when you visit you know you are staying local, eating local, and diving and snorkeling with locals who are committed to protecting the area and keeping it pristine.
There are plenty of other activities to enjoy in Cabo Pulmo outside of diving and snorkeling. There are gorgeous mountains with hiking and mountain biking trails, water falls and hot springs close by, and a sweet town to grab a bite and drink. If you enjoy a slower paced vibe, where you can see all the stars at night, enjoy wildlife and adventure and are craving a peaceful week to truly unplug (WiFi is unpredictable), this is the place for you.
