Mission Statement
Showing Up For SELF is a writing retreat for the person who’s been everything to everyone— except themselves.
Here, we slow down, breathe, and make space for your voice to be heard again. Through guided writing sessions, deep reflection,
and a supportive community of creators, you’ll reconnect with your purpose, your peace, and your power.
This is where you drop the distractions, pick up the pen, and remember who you are. Between moments of stillness and bursts of creativity, you’ll rediscover the version of you that’s been waiting — the writer, the dreamer, the doer. Because when you show up for your words, you’re really showing up for your whole self.
Showing Up For SELF is a 5-day immersive experience for writers and creatives ready to rediscover their voice and reignite their purpose.
Days 1 and 5 are travel days, giving you time to arrive, settle in, and transition back home with intention.
Days 2–4 are filled with guided writing sessions, group discussions, and restorative moments designed to balance creativity and self-care.

Joi Miner—a storyteller at heart—has built her career around helping others reclaim their voices, rewrite their narratives, and live life on their own terms. Through her writing, her coaching, and her signature podcast Main Character Energy: The Joi Miner Experience, she creates spaces where authenticity meets accountability, and where creativity becomes a sacred act of self-care.
The Showing Up for SELF: Writing & Wellness Retreat was born from a collaborative effort with Karina Polen-Davis of Amour Getaways. Both women live with the belief that we can’t pour from an empty cup—but we can write, rest, and rise together.
In Puerto Rico’s serene mountain backdrop, she invites writers, dreamers, and doers to slow down, breathe deep, and reconnect with their creative purpose.
Whether she’s leading a workshop, hosting a fireside story session, or guiding guests through moments of reflection and release, Joi brings her signature blend of southern warmth, sharp wit, and soulful honesty to every experience. Because for her—and for everyone she welcomes into this space—showing up isn’t just an act of self-love. It’s a revolution.
A Certified Interpretive Guide and wellness travel curator, Karina Polen-Davis believes healing begins when we reconnect with nature—and with our creative selves.
Her journey in the arts started in college, where she organized Knowledge Parties that brought spoken word artists and musicians together to share their voices. That passion led her to open Taina’s Art Gallery in Montgomery, Alabama, a space celebrating artist of the African diaspora through exhibits and poetry nights—where she first met Joi Miner, one of the featured performers.
Through Amour Getaways, Karina now merges her love of culture, nature, and community into immersive wellness experiences across Puerto Rico’s mountains, rivers, and sacred spaces. With a background in Food & Nutritional Sciences and certifications in Outdoor Recreation and Interpretation, she creates retreats that nourish the mind, body, and spirit—helping others reset, reconnect, and rise through the art of travel.
Welcome to your creative reset. After checking in and settling into your space, join us for an evening of connection and intention-setting.
You’ll meet Joi, Karina and your fellow attendees, share your “why,” and start building the kind of community that fuels inspiration.
This is a soft landing — no pressure, no perfection, just presence.

We start with grounding — yoga, stretching, or a silent morning walk — to help you settle into stillness before you write.
Morning sessions focus on reconnecting with your creative rhythm through prompts, journaling, and guided free writes.
Afternoon breakout groups allow you to choose your flow — early bird, midday muse, or night owl — so your process feels natural, not forced.
The day ends with a reflection circle to celebrate your breakthroughs and set new goals.
Highlights:
Morning yoga or meditation
Guided writing sessions
Genre-specific writing sprints
Evening reflection and group sharing
This is your deep-dive day. You’ll have large blocks of writing time to dive into your
projects, guided writing prompts to keep inspiration flowing, and the option to join one of six private coaching sessions with Joi for personalized feedback. The day closes with a storytelling circle — a sacred space to read, listen, and witness each other’s work in a judgment-free
environment.

- Focused writing time
- Creative coaching opportunities
- 1:1 sessions available (limited slots)
- Evening storytelling by candlelight or fire
Now that the words are flowing, it’s time to refine your message and expand your reach.
Morning sessions explore editing techniques, publishing options (traditional vs. self-

Afternoon quiet hours allow you to apply what you’ve learned, edit in peace, or take a restorative break before the closing circle.
We end with a manifestation meditation to anchor what you’ve gained and prepare you for what comes next.
