Sicily is a civilization, layered and volcanic, sun-scorched and endlessly surprising. Wine is simply how you access it. On this ten-day experience through the island's most compelling regions, we trace a path from the ancient lava fields of Mount Etna to the Baroque stone towns of the southeast, through the wild interior of central Sicily and on to the salt-white coast of Marsala. Along the way, we drink seriously, eat magnificently, and stand inside some of the most extraordinary landscapes on earth. Benanti Winery

• One of Etna's pioneering estates, Benanti led the modern revival of indigenous varieties on the volcano. Their wines from ancient Nerello Mascalese vines, many over a century old, are renowned for their mineral precision and haunting depth. Expect tour, tasting, and lunch at the winery.

Palmento Costanzo Winery

• Named for the traditional lava-stone palmento (pressing house) at the heart of the estate, Palmento Costanzo crafts wines of elegance and terroir from south-facing Etna vineyards. A beautiful property with a deep respect for biodynamic viticulture. Our group will enjoy a tour and tasting of their wines.

In the morning, we will visit a self-sufficient almond and fruit farm. As a group, we will get to enjoy Sunday Brunch on the farm.

In the afternoon, we will drive to Villa Romana del Casale to see the extraordinary 4th-century Roman mosaics.

Murgia Lamanno Olive Oil

• In the morning, we will join the group for a tour and tasting at an artisan olive oil producer. Here, they are working within the prestigious Valle del Belice DOP, home to the ancient Nocellara del Belice olive, the same variety prized for both table olives and extraordinary oil. After the tour, we will enjoy lunch with the group featuring their products.

Marco De Bartoli

• A legend of Sicilian wine. Marco De Bartoli almost single-handedly rescued Marsala's reputation and the indigenous Zibibbo grape of Pantelleria. His Vecchio Samperi, an unfortified oxidative wine, is one of Italy's great originals. This visit will be a highlight of the trip.

Florio Winery

• Founded in 1833, Florio is the great historic house of Marsala. Its cavernous bagli (cellars) hold barrels stretching back generations. A visit here is as much history as wine: the Targa Florio racing legacy, the Florio dynasty, and the golden age of Sicilian commerce all live within these walls.

After, we will head to Segesta to visit the breathtaking ancient Greek temple.

This morning we explore Palermo’s food culture on foot with a local guide who has spent years navigating the local markets and the stories behind them. She is also a member of an association that actively promotes businesses which have refused to pay protection money to the mafia. Our route will take us through one of Palermo's great historic markets, where we'll graze our way through whatever is freshest and most local. Expect panelle (crispy fried chickpea batter, a Palermo staple), fresh fish straight from the ice, and if you're feeling adventurous, a pani câ meusa, the legendary spleen sandwich that has been feeding Palermitans for centuries.

In the afternoon, you will have free time to explore at your own pace.

In the morning, we will join the group for a walking tour of Palermo to learn about the city's rich history, incredible art, and fascinating stories of the Mafia.

Guests will have the afternoon free for last minute shopping and packing.

In the evening, we will gather one last time for a farewell dinner with the group.
