About this trip

“To have seen Italy without having seen Sicily is not to have seen Italy at all, for Sicily is the clue to everything."  - Goethe

Sicily is an island of extremes. Rocky volcanic coastlines give way to white sandy beaches. Crumbling architectural treasures of the ancient world sit next to some of the most theatrical and perfectly preserved paintings of the Baroque. Menus feature hearty pasta dishes next to the freshest seafood, and meals end with the world's best cannoli!

Seductively beautiful and perfectly placed in the heart of the Mediterranean, Sicily should be at the top of your list. Sicily is the largest of the Italian islands, and has long seduced travelers with its natural wonders and cultural treasures. It boasts wonderful weather, and a diverse range of culinary influences.

Our unique tours highlight Sicily’s rich history, cultural heritage, traditions, wine and food, and enable visitors to go on and off-the-beaten-path. Tours visit the more well-known East side of Sicily We are dedicated to creating lifelong memories through enriching and experiential travel that is immersive, varied, and fun.

Great Weather in May!

May is a great time to visit sicily - the temperatures are pleasantly warm without being too hot. The average daytime high is 70 degrees F, and it rarely goes below 60.

It's still a little chilly at night,  with an average low of  53 degrees F.

Sicily is blessed with a lot of sun. In fact, Catania and Palermo are among the sunniest places in Europe. May is one of the driest months of the year.

And you won't have to deal with the peak tourist crowds!

What to Expect

This moderately-paced, escorted tour includes a reasonable amount of walking and requires an average level of physical fitness.

The best things you can bring with you are flexibility, patience, and a sense of humor!

Please note: Sicily is 85% hills and mountains. For strategic reasons, many towns were built on top of hills that are at some altitude. Any visit to the island will often have you walking on inclines, climbing steps, and encountering uneven surfaces. Comfortable sturdy shoes are highly recommended. When visiting local farms and agricultural spots such as vineyards, you will often walk on dirt and stones. Carrying a light weight, foldable walking stick is a good idea if you require support.

Cost and Payment

This 5-day, 4-night adventure is priced $1,599 per person double occupancy (not including airfare to and from Spain). If you prefer a single room, the supplement is $900.

Your space will be secured when we receive a deposit of $250. Upon receipt, your deposit will be nonrefundable.

We have a payment plan which allows the entire cost of the trip to be paid in 12 equal installments of about about $xxx. (You are welcome to make larger payments at less frequent intervals if you choose.)

Full payment is due April 15.

Cancellation and Refunds

In the event that you need to cancel your trip, these fees will be applied:

• Between 150-101 days before your arrival date, $375.

• Between 100-61 days before your arrival date, 25% of the entire tour price.

• Between 60 and 46 days before your arrival date, 50% of the entire tour price.

• Between 45 and 31 days before your arrival date, 75% of the entire tour price.

• Between 30 and 1 days before your arrival date, 100% of the entire tour price.

FAQs

Electricity

In Sicily they supply 220v. For computers, phones and camera chargers, you will need a 2 or 3 prong plug adapter designated for ‘Southern Europe’.

A converter is necessary only for heat-drawing electronics such as a hair dryer or razor.

Language

Sicilian is indeed a language, if an oral language. It has many dialects across the island and, for the most part, is spoken in families and between friends. All Sicilians speak Italian.

Money

Most credit cards are accepted in hotels and restaurants. ATMs are all over the island but not as accessible as in the USA. Most have cash withdrawal limits around E250 but E500 daily withdrawal is allowed. Always make sure you have cash on hand. Sometimes the ATMs are “down.”

Eastern Sicily

Experience the side of the Island that favors Sicily’s Greek and Roman heritage, combined with Spanish influence and the Baroque.

Come visit Sicily’s Eastern triangle

You will enjoy the warm Sicilian hospitality and meet the families and artisans that make traditional products. You will begin to understand what Sicily is. Our expert guides will open your eyes to the depth and breadth of Sicily’s ancient history, its daily life, its beauty and its heart. We’ll visit Her Majesty Mount Etna and an important harvest festival. You will be experiencing a Sicily that would be rather impossible on your own, on this small group tour that begins and ends in Catania.  Note that there is daily walking in areas that include hills, steps and uneven surfaces. The activity level is moderate.

Jordan has been at the top of my destination list since 2018. I finally made it! My heart was happy in Jordan. I had the opportunity to see and do everything on my wish list. Mt. Nebo, Jordan River, floating in the Dead Sea, private guide through Petra, exploring Wadi Rum and feeding camels. I can’t wait to go back and spend more time in Wadi Rum. Thank you Annie and Yasser for making my long awaited dreams come true!

I just got back from the trip of a lifetime. Annie and her contacts in South Africa set up an itinerary to make sure you experience different facets of the country in the time you spend there but best of all they make you feel welcome and make sure you see the animals! The accommodations were great and the people we met were great. This vacation exceeded all my expectations and I may never top this trip!!

I just returned from a once in a lifetime trip to Cairo organized by Bucket List Travel. Annie took care of every detail of planning, and it really showed when I got off the plane and was taken care of from start to finish with the greatest care. Our guide Yasser was kind, professional, knowledgeable, and funny! He went above and beyond to ensure every need was met and we got the most out of each day in Egypt. I always felt safe and loved experiencing local life and culture. I plan to grab my friends and book again with Bucket List Travel!
