Discover the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of Puno on our Half-Day Tour to the Chullpas of Sillustani, a fascinating journey along the shores of Lake Umayo. Here, we'll explore the impressive funerary towers built by ancient pre-Incan and Incan cultures. During the visit, we'll admire these unique stone structures, some reaching up to 12 meters in height, while enjoying the stunning landscapes of the Altiplano and learning about the traditions and ancestral legacy of the ancient inhabitants of the Collao region.
The tour begins with passenger pick-up from their hotel at 1:30 PM to board the tourist bus to the Sillustani Chullpas archaeological complex. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes.
Upon arriving at the archaeological complex, we will begin a gentle 40-minute walk, accompanied by our guide. During the walk, we will see the famous chullpas, or funerary towers, built by the ancient Collao culture and later used during the Inca period.
These circular stone structures were designed to house the funerary remains of important figures of the time. Some of them reach up to 12 meters in height and are notable for having a base with a smaller diameter than the top.
During the hike, we will reach a viewpoint overlooking the impressive Umayo Lagoon, which surrounds the archaeological complex and complements the natural and historical landscape of Sillustani.
Optional visit to a rural home
If the group wishes, we will make a brief visit to a rural home located along the trail, where we can learn about the customs and way of life of the Andean people.
After the visit, we will board our transport again to return to the city of Puno.
