About this trip

With our guide Alirio it was great to do this tous after 1 wedk in Galapagos.
Aliriogave us a big lesson about Ecuador and we could see many things in just one day.
Be careful with the altitude.
The experience in Mitad del Mundo was very interesting. Don’t forget to go to the private museum full of experiences.

Don’t miss Quilotoa if you come to Ecuador. Wonderful views of the lagoon inside the crater. Walk along thr rim of Quilotoa vulcan and see so nice flowers at that altitude.
Walk down to the crater and think if you are strong enough to come up.
Estuardo was a wonderful guide.
The landscape around Quilotoa is like naif paintings.
Estuardo was our guide snd we had a lot of fun with him.

I will never forget the hummingbirds very early in the morning as well as tucanos, a lot of small birds, butterflies and. Flowers.
I will never forget the chocolate tour at “Maya chocolate “ with Erica and her family. I recommend this tour.
Enjoy the rivers and forests. Eat a very good quinoa soup and forget the cities. Here’s the paradise!j

Stephanie is a great guide. She knows a lot about birds, plants and society, as she is also a lawyer. 
Otavalo is a good place to go shopping. We missed the Saturday market but you coul also shop on a week day.
The mountains around the region are very nice, as well as Saint Paulo,s lake snd the volcans and craters not do far from Otovalo.
What a nice grilled trout we had for lunch!

We really loved the trekking to the refuge with the snow and the great views. We saw 2 wolfs on the way and how good was the hot chocolate we had at the top!
The lunch was very good.

Estuardo, our guide, was a great mountain guide and we were lucky to have him in Quilotoa and Cotapaxi. He’s a young but very responsible and he helps everyone that has difficulties. Thanks to him!

A wonderful time to relax after 17 days in Ecuador. The guide was great, the environment with the mountains was perfect. We all had a great day! We also loved the river trout as well as the small trekking around the pools. We advise other tourists not to miss Papallacta.

We had a really good experience with CarpeDiem and Caiman Lodge. The accommodation was comfortable and the food was good. The Lodge provided boots and waterproof ponchos. Adonis, the main guide, was extremely kind and knowledgeable. He and the assistant guide Jonathon taught us a lot and made everyone feel very safe and welcome. The motor canoe drivers were careful and efficient and all the lodge staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed sunset boat trips, swims in the lagoon, evening hunts for caiman, jungle walks, an evening walk, and a visit to the Siona community. When we had a moment to spare we went to the top of the tower to birdwatch and look at the view. The others in our small group were much younger than us, and they were delightful. It was a very enjoyable four days. Boating on the lagoon at night was magical.

We booked through CarpeDiem, who were extremely efficient and responsive both for the booking and during the trip. I sent a message to the company when the bus did not arrive to take us to Lago Agrio and even though it was almost midnight I got a response immediately.

The bus ride from Quito to Lago Agrio was a great price, but very long, partly due to a major route being washed away. If I was to do the trip again I might try to fly this part.

Trip was exhilarating and challenging and doing it gave me a great sense of achievement. The company made it easy to book with pick up and drop off. Their suggestions to prepare were perfect.

We had the good fortune to have Stui as our guide today. Stui not only made the trip enjoyable with his extensive knowledge of the area, and it’s customs, he went above and beyond to be ever present as we hiked up to the base camp on Cotopaxi. As we are an older couple it took us a bit more time at such a high altitude, Stui, encouraged us all the way and exhibited an immense amount of patience. 
He also was able to customize the trip a bit, to fit our needs. 
I would highly recommend this trip to anyone wishing to be up close to the active volcano.

Great tour guide. We booked this last minute and pick up was just down the road from our airbnb. 

Bring warm clothes since you're going up the volcano. It gets cold even when the sun is out. The lunch stop before climbing the mountain has a stand where you can buy reasonably priced toques and sweaters.

Alejandro was our tour guide. Great guy, recommends bringing your ex for human sacrifice haha 😄 

The summit was off limits due to the recent volcano activities but we were able to go up to Base Camp where we had a little coffee/snack break. 

Afterwards we had a short bike tour. It was nice. Highly recommended 👌

Very knowledgeable guide on the area, plants, birds along with providing some excellent background history as to every place we visited.  The stops along the way were well timed so that we were able to pack in quite a bit of places but still have plenty of time at the open air market in Otavalo.  Good day all the way around

The guide was wonderful.  A beautiful area to visit along with plenty of time to take in the different activities throughout the day.  She was very helpful in providing background information on the areas visited.  Just an overall enjoyable day and nice to see areas outside of the Capital city.

We had a wonderful trip, our guides were very conscientious. They took us to the Pululahua crater early in the morning before the clouds moved in.  The Middle of the World experience was exceptional. Definitely worth it.

Diego was a fabulous guide.  He was very personable and full of information.  He drove us to the Pululahua crater, the Mitad del Mundo, and the Teleferico.  All day long he was considerate, friendly, and very helpful.  He answered all our questions about these places, about Quito, about Ecuador's economy, and various other things in rich detail and in perfect English.  We were absolutely delighted with the whole experience.

We travelled as a couple and booked a private tour to Mindo(private as we had a particular day that we could do a tour, but the group tour for Mindo wasn't scheduled on this day). Have a private tour actually allowed us to choose the activities that we wanted to do. Our guide Marco was incredibly knowledgable and a very nice and interesting person, that gave something extra to our day, giving us a local's perspective.
In the end, we chose to do a canopy tour (10-line zipline tour), tubing and a visit to see hummingbirds. 
The canopy tour was good, albeit a little rushed. Our zipline guide was very informative about the local flora and fauna, pointing out various orchid species along the way.
The tubing was fun - the water was a bit low, but we still managed our 1km of tubing down the river. Quite refreshing after ziplining!
The last stop was recommended by our guide Marco; we asked what he recommended, and suggested a place with hummingbirds, but on the way back to Quito. We did this, visiting a family owned property-turned reserve and couldn't stop smiling with all the little hummingbirds flitting about. They also grow coffee and coffee plants for farmers on the property, so sampled some coffee and got a small bag as a souvenir.
Thank you to CarpeDM tours for arranging this tour; they tried to advertise the tour to get a group rate, but no one else signed up. The prices are competitive, service, and communication all excellent.

We had an incredible trip! Carlos was our guide and was so knowledgeable about the animals, the environment, and obviously his culture. The private room was so stunning and very well maintained. All the staff were wonderful and made things happen with such ease. They are all locals unlike some of the other lodges. Food options were extensive and delicious. Enjoy the amazing birds from your hammock with a cup of local coffee. 

Great tour!  Fun to see so many different things- view from the edge of the volcano crater, taking the cable car to over 13,000 feet and learning about the equator and indigenous people.  At all times we felt we were in good hands of our driver and guide.  Well worth it!

Great day in Mindo  with Pablo and Stefany. They went at our pace and offered insights and information along the way. A beautiful day full of hummingbirds, orchids, waterfall, lunch, zip-lining and chocolate. Thank you!!

An extraordinary day and certainly a "must-do" when you are in Quito.
Walking up was a great experience - the views to the Cotopaxi as well down are fantastic as we had very good weather.
The tour was very well organised and structured starting with the punctual pick up at the pick-up point, clear announcement of the plan for the day, clear instructions on safety and behaviour rules related to the altitude and lunch at a clean and well maintained restaurant. Everything very well managed by Alejandro, who is also very knowledgeable on the volcanos of Ecuador and the Quito area.
Alejandro was also taking very well care about all group members.
The optional bike-ride down to the Laguna was also nice. We liked it too - however more experienced mountain bikers might have got higher expectations to the quality of the bikes and the challenge to the ride. But for us it was fine as it was just 7 km going down.

Each of the various highlights of this trip are already worth a trip on it's own.
We took the one day tour and still felt we have seen and experiences so much and learned a lot on the people and the places in Banos and on the way to Banos.
Great tour with Lincoln as a great and very experienced tour guide.

Great trip with the fantastic experience walking down to the Laguna and do some kayaking on the lake surrounded by the volcano.
Walk up is even a greater experience.
Unforgettable views and lots of information how the local people are living in the highlands!

Unbelievable experience to have hummingbirds flying around us making noises like bees!
For the canopying: take the 10 runs instead of the small tour only! It is worth the extra money!
Walk in the fog forest down the waterfall: we never had some many plants around us and a great guide Alex Paul who was truly knowledgeable about Flora, Fauna and history of the places we visited! Everything was fitting!

We had an amazing Trip to the Amazon. The Tucan Lodge offers a very nice Accomodation und is quite new. The team is very friendly and makes you feel like home. Also the guides are very experienced and always want to make the best out of every activity. We had a lot of different acitivities to explore the Amazon Area on boat and on land. Mindo is a great destination. CarpeDM provided an excellent guide in Lincoln who picked us up promptly from our hotel. We appreciated that he customized our adventure to our interests. Our first stop after breakfast was at Pululahua Volcano. So beautiful! We went on to stops at the hummingbirds (where we saw many birds including a toucan), butterflies, lunch and a stop in Mindo, the zip line, a walk in the cloud forest searching out toucans (we saw two more!), and the cable car back and forth between mountains. The trip was good, our guide was brilliant, knew his stuff and was well organised. The biking left a lot to be desired in my opinion, it was just biking down the gravel road you drive along, it’s not a proper mountain bike experience, but fine. 

It was a wonderful trip. Angelica is z family run boat with 16 guests max. Maria the guide is wonderful with so much information and passion for the Galapagos. We saw and learnt so much about the animals. Snorkeling was wonderful. The food, snacks, comfort and everything about the boat was wonderful including all the helpful good humoured crew. I would recommend this cruise 100%

I had a wonderful time in the lodge and experienced a lot in the jungle. Both the driver Amando and the guide were brilliant. They were so fun and knowledgable. We were so grateful to have them. We suggest to Improve the lodge by not serve any meat and use purely sustainable energy for a true experience

The lodge was amazing! So comfortable and spacious for two people. Our guide Luis was incredible, there wasn’t an answer to a question he didn’t know and he was spotting creatures when they were really camouflaged. Miguel who worked in the kitchen was so so lovely. I had an upset stomach and he made me oregano tea to help and also made me fresh juice when I was struggling to keep anything down. I was honestly so grateful. Would definitely recommend this place

My friends and I had such a great time with Ciera! The staff were so lovely and accommodating, they cooked the best food, even for us vegetarians. Luis was the best guide! So much knowledge about every animal and spotted so much for us to see. The accommodation was so great too. Would definitely recommend these guys. They were so good!
