This two-night, three-day excursion on the Rogue River is designed for high schoolers entering 9th – 12th grades who have an interest in hydrology, watershed science, and rafting. The Rogue River offers splashy rapids, quiet natural pools, stark canyons, and a variety of wildlife. As participants travel downriver from Schroeder Park to Galice, they move backward in time through geological layers. They spend the afternoons observing and discussing first-hand local geological, ecological and hydrological examples. They navigate rapids, conducting water quality tests, and explore what makes a healthy watershed. Participants set up evening camp alongside the river, discuss the impact of dams and water in the West, and find summer constellations in the sky. No prior experience required; all meals and rafting equipment are included. Rafts and guiding provided by Nate’s Rogue Adventures. A fishing license is required for youth 12 and older if they would like to fish during this trip. We will have fishing gear available for youth to use.
