Professional, attentive and reassuring. With over 6000+ dives! I'm Chris, lover of the seabed and diving. I am very serious and professional, like my “Swiss<br /> Made” origins! I moved to Costa Rica with my family to live and share my passion.
The WORST experience. Chris should not be allowed to teach anyone how to scuba dive or to provide any certifications. I am 57 and my girlfriend is 56. We planned this trip months in advance to be after completion of our classroom and pool training in our home state. I only completed 2 dives, but my SSI profile says I am open water certified with 4 dives. My girlfriend only completed 1 dive, but her SSI profile shows 2 dives and an open water certification. This is proof that this guy is a fraud and unethical.
No dive plan was discussed before diving. We just signed a bunch of waivers and got on the boat. There was no buddy equipment check or tank inspection like we were taught. What little instruction Chris did give us was different than what we had been provided by SSI (such as how to kick in the water) and he mentioned several times how he doesn't agree with SSI methods. Chris gave us wrist dive computers to wear with no instruction on how to use them. Underwater there was also no instruction. Chris seemed more interested in chasing manta rays with his go pro cam.
At one point in the dive Chris got physical with my girlfriend and yanked on her BC pulling her down because she was having problems with natural buoyancy due to not enough weight in her BC (he ignored the weights we had established at our home dive center). He also hit her arm when she reached for her SMB when she misunderstood his underwater instruction. He pulled her around during the dive and completely ignored me. We did not follow the buddy system at all. The dive was not enjoyable as he did not allow us time to observe the underwater marine life.
He also ignored my girlfriend's repeated hand signals that her ears hurt and her pulling back when he tried to make her dive deeper head first.
Back on the boat after the 1st dive, my girlfriend was visibly upset. Chris ignored that and wanted to keep diving, trying to talk her into going back into the water. Chris and I did my 2nd dive with my girlfriend staying on the boat.
Again, no instruction was given, just Chris chasing marine life with his go pro cam.
I called off the 2nd day of diving and asked for a refund for the 2nd day. Chris refused to refund my money and tried to get me to dive with his son instead, admitting that he can be aggressive and short.
So, we paid over $1,100 and now have to pay again at our local dive shop to get our legitimate open water certification.
If you waste your time with this guy, you get what you deserve. Read all the bad ratings (I wish I had read more of them).
Chris and his son were a great team to work with my 12-year-old son and introduce him to diving. The custom-made practice pool at his house with the windows, to the dive boat, to the open water dive was all perfect. I really liked how comfortable Chris was in the water and how he was always in control of the situation. Chris was a great guy, and we are hoping to return soon so both of my kids can get certified.
Thanks again for a great experience.
Chris is a true master of his craft. My partner and I had a great experience diving with him. We are seasoned divers and have been diving for over 30 years. Chris is simply the best that we have ever dove with. You will not be disappointed.
