About this trip

Where is Hakuba?
Situated in the breathtakingly beautiful Northern Japan Alps, Hakuba stands out as one of Japan's top winter resort areas, offering some of the best winter sports action in Japan. The host of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, Hakuba comprises nine ski resorts stretched across a broad valley, and provides more terrain, vertical rise and advanced ski and snowboard slopes than anywhere in Japan. Abundant snow falls and excellent powder conditions make Hakuba a perennial top choice of skiers and snowboarders from around the world.

For more than 70 years, Hakuba has been providing skiers, boarders and outdoor enthusiasts the ideal conditions for enjoying a superlative winter sports experience. Over 200 different trails, exceptional powder and some of the longest vertical skiing in Japan are just a few of the reasons why Hakuba has earned its reputation as a prime destination for skiers and boarders of all levels.

So many options
How Do You Want to Play Today? Nine ski resorts are located across the Hakuba Valley, all within easy reach of the local towns of Happo and Wadano. Plenty of snow, miles of trails and easy access from major Japanese cities are just a few of the reasons why visitors return to Hakuba year after year.

History
First founded in 1928, Hakuba boasts some of the highest snowfall levels in Japan, with an annual base of snow exceeding ten meters. Winter in Hakuba means opportunities to enjoy an incredible array of winter sports against the backdrop of the spectacularly beautiful Northern Japan Alps. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, winter enthusiasts can enjoy telemark skiing, Nordic skiing, snow rafting, snow mobiling, heli skiing and snowshoeing. Thanks to its dry climate and exceptional powder snow, Hakuba provides an unparalleled winter vacation experience in Japan.

To End The Day
After a fantastic day on the slopes, be sure to check out Hakuba’s diverse nightlife, which offers something for everyone. Whether you are in the mood for a quiet pub, live music performance or high-energy dance club, Hakuba’s après ski scene has it all. For a more soothing way to end the day, treat yourself to a massage, or enjoy gazing at the stars as you soak in one of the outdoor hot spring baths.

Food
Not only is Hakuba considered one of the best ski areas in Japan, its location in Nagano Prefecture means that Hakuba chefs have some of the freshest, tastiest ingredients right at their fingertips. Restaurants in the Hakuba area are proud to feature local meats and vegetables, providing an unforgettable dining experience. Visitors to Hakuba can choose from a tremendous range of dining options, from romantic candlelight dinners to home-style meals in casual settings. The wide variety of international cuisine ranges from pizza and pasta to steak houses, Chinese food and Korean barbecue. Whatever you are in the mood for, you can be sure to find it in Hakuba. Hakuba is home to dozens of izakaya, or traditional Japanese pubs, which are known for their casual, friendly atmosphere. Enjoy sampling regional dishes, hand-made buckwheat soba noodles and sake in a comfortable, relaxing environment.

Hi there yogi's and yogini's. My name is Echo. I started yoga about 12 years ago. I took my first class because I thought I needed something to calm my mind. I have always been a thrill seeker and sports enthusiast, and at the time I felt like I needed a shift of energy. Yoga at first was very difficult for me. Slow movements, and a focus on breath at the time did not sit well with me. I felt very unsettled on my mat in a room full of strangers, and the pace of the practice did not organically flow with me. Although I truly enjoyed powerful asana, it was very difficult for me to find peace with it because I was constantly looking for more challenge in my practice. It was not until I was teaching for a couple of years that I found a softer more intimate side to yoga. I began to truly balance my yin and yang sides. I began to really appreciate stillness in my mind, breath and body. I began to notice the small subtleties in my practice, and I began to truly fall in love with the practice.

Totally amazing and immersive adventure, filled with great companionship, fun, frivolity and deep, cherished acceptance and love between participants. All led by this whirling devish of a woman - Echo. Who brought fun and play, mixed with yogic wisdom and grace. The yoga was fantastic...soft but deep opening and invigorating morning classes..evening tender yin. This was then mixed with writing workshops which brought tears at the end of the trip as each session, peeled layers off and pricked our conscience to really remember ourselves and our triumphs as well as our falls. Similar to how we were on the snow. And what snow we had.....Deep powder and breathtaking mountain vistas...expert, teasing and fun snowboard instructors...and then the Onsens!! Japan and Echo's yoga workshop was a truely memorable, vital, surreal and outstanding adventure....Thank-you thank-you and thank-you.

There is so much that I can say about this teacher training and none of it would ever be enough to convey to you just how truly beautiful and amazing this experience was for me. Echo and her entire team of teachers were attentive, honest, helpful, and most of all loving each of us as a student and as human beings. No matter the tribulations we faced, they were there to always be a gentle guiding hand to each of us throughout the month of training. From the amazing location to the deep spiritual and practical knowledge shared with us, we grew in our practice and our spirituality and grew together as a group, stronger each day through love and compassion. Holding a space of safe love is and always will be, in my opinion, the best way to help humans connect with each other and allow them to learn and grow together. Thank you, Echo, Josh, Cole, Maria, Paula, and Brittany for every ounce of love, kindness, and guidance during our time together in Guatemala. I love all of you!
