Anna Joyce is an artist, textile designer and author based in Portland, Oregon. Joyce is best known for her colorful hand dyed clothing and housewares collections, her two books on printing and dyeing by hand and her playful use of color and pattern.
Joyce taught a retreats in Marrakech, Morocco in November 2019, October 2022, May 2023 and has upcoming retreats planned twice a year. Follow along on trips at @annajoycedesign on instagram.

This trip exceeded my expectations in every way! Anna organized and led an amazing tour that immersed us in local craft traditions and foods, and provided opportunities for making art and capturing our experiences through travel journaling. Her connections with locals and knowledge of the craftspeople, shops and restaurants made it a delight to follow along, and also gave us the confidence to explore on our own. Several women in group had travelled here with Anna before and I totally understand why they returned - it was such a magical experience!

Just fabulous! This is my second time traveling with Anna to Morocco and each visit gets better.
It was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was immersed in the rich culture, vibrant colors, and breathtaking landscapes that Morocco has to offer. The retreat was perfectly organized, blending creativity and relaxation seamlessly.
The accommodations were both comfortable and inspiring, with traditional Moroccan architecture and decor that encouraged a sense of calm and wonder. The food was absolutely delicious, with fresh ingredients and unique flavors that gave me a deeper appreciation for the local cuisine. Each day was filled with creative workshops, exploring everything from painting to weaving to ice dyeing, guided by incredibly talented instructors.
What made this retreat so special was not just the artistic development, but the chance to connect with fellow artists/attendees from all over the US. The group dynamic was warm and inclusive, fostering a community where everyone felt encouraged to share their work, exchange ideas, and learn from one another.

An absolutely fantastic trip from start to finish. I has such a great time two years ago I had to come back again in 2024. Maison 28 is stunningly beautiful and their staff is some of the most welcoming and accommodating people. The rooftop breakfasts are a real treat. The itinerary was perfectly paced and thoughtfully planned. After many trips, Anna has fostered great relationships with many of the artists in the Souks so be prepared for some of the best shopping of your life. Each trip had slightly different activities but each time I got to see different parts of Morocco. The easiest way to travel because Anna's vetted everything and does all the planning. The best!

Anna has perfectly curated a trip for you to see artists, be mesmerized by color, enjoy amazing food and learn about an ancient culture. The detail she shows in planning this trip made me feel comfortable as a solo traveler and frankly I don’t want to travel here again without her. I enjoyed it so much that I may just go back next year.

I can’t imagine anyone better to introduce a person to the colors and energy of Marrakech than vibrant Anna Joyce. The group was wonderful, accomodations comfortable, and wow, the Riad’s staff was attentive, warm and welcoming. The retreat was put together with a perfect rhythm. We would devour sites, sounds and tastes for a day or two, then do something a little calmer and restorative. It was a true retreat: inspiring & rejuvenating.

The Colors of Morocco Fall 2025 retreat was a once in a lifetime experience for me. Anna is the hardest working (and most fun) host who took care of every detail. We had such a lovely group of like-minded women from around the country. It was pure magic and I recommend it to anyone who is curious. Thank you Anna!

Morocco had been at the top of my travel wish list for ages, but I never quite had the right person to go with. When I heard about this trip, I knew it was the perfect opportunity, not only to experience Marrakech but also to tap into my creative side.
What I didn’t expect was just how incredible the entire adventure would be or how amazing the group of women was! This well curated trip struck the perfect balance of exploring, sightseeing, eating, creating… and amazing shopping! The pace was ideal, too. I’ve been on tours where you’re so busy you need a vacation from your vacation, but this one allowed enough downtime to pause, recharge, and really take it all in.
Connecting with local artisans made the experience feel authentic and deeply personal rather than touristy - and we met the loveliest people! We enjoyed everything from elegant dinners to the most delicious street food - and did I mention the shopping : ) ? Anna knows all the best spots! The riads we stayed in were gorgeous!! I also loved that on day one, Anna reminded us that this was our trip and to feel empowered to participate in what spoke to us, and skip what didn’t. There was no pressure to do everything. But honestly, our group was so wonderful that none of us wanted to miss a thing - we did it all, together!

I had so much fun on this art retreat, soaking up the beauty and craftsmanship of Morocco. It was great to get to know everyone in our group as we toured the souks and artisan workshops and spent studio time learning ice dying and capturing inspiration in our travel journals. Maison 28 is a treasure with it's beautiful furnishings and multiple rooftop patios. The staff was so caring - they even created special dishes to accommodate my dietary restriction. Our expeditions to the coast and mountains gave us even more opportunities to explore the country and meet local artisans. Cooking class was so fun (and delicious!) Anna made it all so much fun - thank you for sharing Morocco with us.
