SOMATIC FOUNDATIONS FOR PSYCHEDELIC PRACTICE (SFPP) with Atira Tan
5-Week Online Immersion | 25 Hour Program |
Virtual & Live Online | Self-Paced Option Available
The body carries an intelligence that is often overlooked in psychedelic work.
It is not passive. It is continuously organizing, responding, and moving toward resolution.
Much of what arises in altered states does not come through language or narrative—it emerges through sensation, impulse, and subtle shifts within the system.
When this is not met at the level it is unfolding, or when the process is interpreted too quickly, redirected, or moved past before it has had the opportunity to complete, a significant part of the healing process is missed.
This 5-week immersion provides the missing link in psychedelic practice—access to understand and cultivate the somatic intelligence within.
Somatic Foundations for Safe Psychedelic Practice is a 5-week online immersion that introduces the essential somatic capacities required to engage psychedelic and plant medicine work safely and responsibly.
This program is designed for both practitioners and psychedelic wayfarers who recognize that healing does not arise from insight alone but from the body’s capacity to process and integrate what is revealed.
It is suited to those who want to develop their somatic awareness, deepen their ability to listen to the narrative of the body, and approach trauma with care, patience, and respect for the pace of the nervous system.
It also supports those who feel called to facilitation and working within plant medicine spaces and who want to build a solid foundation for working with others in a way that is trauma-informed, embodied, and grounded in presence.
Through experiential practice, live Zoom workshops, video lectures, art explorations, guided inquiry, and trauma-informed teaching, you will learn how to come into a direct, grounded relationship with your inner world—developing the capacity to listen to the body, recognize patterns of activation, and work with the inner healing intelligence that supports resolution and change.
This immersion develops the core capacities required to work with the body in psychedelic contexts—the ability to track what is happening in real time, recognize activation before it escalates, and stay with the process without overriding, analyzing, or making meaning prematurely.
These are not optional skills.
They are what allow the work to be held safely across preparation, facilitation, post-ceremony, and integration.
Led by Atira Tan—a #1 bestselling author, somatic trauma specialist, and TEDx speaker—this program supports you in reconnecting with a deeper intelligence and a sense of self that extends beyond the mind.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
By the end of this immersion, students will be able to:
Access and trust the body's inner healing intelligence:
Recognise the body as an active participant in the healing process — not a passive vessel — and begin to work with its intelligence rather than overriding it.
Track sensation, activation, and nervous system responses in real time:
Develop precision in reading what is happening in the body — moment to moment — in yourself and in those you support, without defaulting to interpretation or narrative.
Recognise and work with trauma as it arises in psychedelic contexts:
Understand how complex trauma surfaces in altered states, and develop the capacity to meet it — without moving too quickly, spiritually bypassing, or unintentionally causing harm.
Identify and work with "parts" — in yourself and others:
Understand how unresolved material within the practitioner can enter the session, and develop the self-awareness required to work from a place of genuine presence rather than projection or counter-transference.
Apply somatic skills across all phases of the psychedelic process:
Use embodied practices and somatic inquiry in preparation, facilitation, and post-ceremony integration — so that each phase supports the next, and nothing is left unmet.
Develop the capacity to stay present with intensity without fixing or analysis:
Build the relational and somatic steadiness required to hold space for difficult, complex, or overwhelming material — without collapsing, overriding, or reaching for resolution prematurely.
Support integration as an embodied, ongoing process:
Understand the metaplastic window following psychedelic experiences and how somatic practices can support the nervous system to stabilise, process, and integrate what has emerged.
Engage this work with ethical grounding and embodied responsibility:
Understand what safety actually means in altered state contexts — not as a concept, but as a felt, relational, and somatic practice — and develop the discernment required to work within appropriate boundaries.

This program is ideal for:
For the practitioner already in the field: You are working as a psychedelic therapist, facilitator, or guide — but there are moments where you sense you are missing what the body is communicating. This immersion gives you the tools to work with somatic intelligence as a primary source of information in your sessions.
For the emerging practitioner: You are entering this work and you want to do it with integrity. You want to be genuinely equipped — to recognise what arises in the body and to support healing without unintentionally getting in its way.
For the therapist or coach: You work with people. But you haven't been trained to work with the body. In psychedelic contexts, trauma moves through sensation and activation — not just narrative. Without somatic literacy, significant parts of the process can be missed or misread. This immersion builds upon the missing piece.
For those called to facilitation:
You feel drawn to hold space for others — and you are honest enough to know you are not yet ready. Facilitation requires the capacity to track a dysregulating nervous system, stay grounded under intensity, and work relationally in altered states.
For the psychedelic wayfarer: You engage plant medicine for your own healing — and you want to meet those experiences more fully. This immersion teaches you how to resource yourself before, stay present during, and integrate after.
For those seeking to heal: You are aware of your trauma imprints — and you sense the path through it runs deeper than thinking your way out. This immersion teaches you how to reconnect with your internal experience and work with your body's own intelligence toward genuine healing.
For anyone who knows that something deeper is required: You don't fit neatly into a category — but you recognise yourself in this work. You are drawn to embodied practice, and you understand that lasting change is not cognitive.

"This TIPM workshop’s deep dive into the realms of living impeccable service was nothing short of life-changing.
I remembered so much about the nervous system, about my life, about my purpose, about the bridges between paradigms, and the collective trauma on the Earth. I was deeply warmed, inspired, challenged, and excited by the entire experience.
Atira transmits genuine, care, curiosity, understanding, and expertise. She is devoted to providing safe spaces for people to heal and her life’s work is testimony to her wisdom and character.

– Melanie Gunn
Naturopath and Transpersonal Art Therapist, Australia
"I’m super grateful for this unique program. Atira’s extensive knowledge on the subject of trauma and working within the PM context has been immensely beneficial. I’ve gained a deeper sense of how to hold the container of healing, which in turn, opens doors for journeyers to be met with more compassion, understanding, and safety to move through their process.
This program is essential for anyone supporting or facilitating PM ceremonies and the process of preparation and integration."
– Simone McKay
Somah Journeys Founder, Canada
"I just came out of the 1st Trauma-informed Plant Medicine Facilitation online training with Atira Tan from Aya Healing Retreats and wow!!
I cannot recommend this training enough for anyone working in the PM space – whether you are pouring medicine, a supporter/facilitator, a pre or post-ceremonial integration specialist, or even a student of the plants.
In fact, I feel that this should be a basic foundational training (alongside 1st Aid) for all healers and support staff.
As the medicine continues to gain momentum in its spread across the globe- we are beginning to see and hear more and more stories of harm from its unskilful use, the lack of quality screening and preparation beforehand, the lack of integration support afterward, and/or the limited understanding of trauma activation and re-traumatization during retreats and ceremonies.
I feel that, in addition to traditional training, this community would benefit hugely from having facilitators and spaces rooted in a basic understanding of the nervous system and how to work skillfully with trauma survivors (and of course, how to work with our own trauma when it shows up in these spaces).
I personally feel that Atira is an excellent bridge and guide into the intersectional realms of plant medicine and trauma therapy."
– Skye Cielita Flor
Wilderness Therapist, South Africa
"My mind and heart are in deep amazement and gratitude as I apply all that I learned in the Trauma-Informed Plant Medicine workshop.
Now more than ever, the world is in need of people who have the ability to listen and hold open space, as the entire human population is currently undergoing a traumatic event. This course is filled with gems of how to meet and support those who are intensely impacted by trauma at any stage of life. I highly recommend this course/workshop, not only to those who are interested in the relationship between trauma and plant medicine but anyone who is curious about understanding human relational patterns to self and society.
Atira shares in-depth knowledge and expertise of trauma studies while offering takeaways that are applicable for ceremonies, friendships, and even for common conversations during the COVID time. Atira and Elio’s work is much needed in the world.
– Betty Gottwald
Photographer & Kambo Facilitator, USA.
"If you are ready to engage in serious trauma healing work, Atira is the practitioner to go for. Her own genuine humanness consistently lived and embodied, and her outstandingly compassionate nature creates a strong and safe therapeutic container that cannot be surpassed.
After a search for decades for the right trauma therapist, all thumbs up for her, as the healing and transformation, I’ve been looking for has finally become real!"
