About this trip

ORYX is proud to offer a number of set departures to MalaMala Game Reserve based on a special rate for South African Residents only, and what’s more, you have the added bonus of high level photographic tutoring courtesy of an ORYX tour leader on these small group departures!

The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is globally renowned for its excellent predator photography, and within this area lies MalaMala, which has access to one of the largest areas of frontage on the Sand River and arguably the best photographic opportunities of the entire region.

Leopard densities and sightings do not get better than at MalaMala, and the drawcard of these habituated spotted cats is reason enough to visit. Add to this large Lion prides, plentiful Spotted Hyaena and good chances for African Wild Dog and even Cheetah, and you have a truly incredible photographic and safari experience.

The tall riverine woodlands that flank the Sand River are perfectly suited to herbivores, with Impala, Bushbuck, Nyala and Greater Kudu common inhabitants which form the food base that supports the impressive carnivore densities. Elephant, Southern Giraffe, Plains Zebra, Cape Buffalo and White Rhino are frequently encountered on  the property, and round off a fabulous selection of large mammals.

With off road and night drives offered, you have a holistic wildlife photographic experience that is one of the best in Africa, and right on the door of South African wildlife photographic enthusiasts.

Fabulous trip, well organised and our tour leader and photographer Penny Robartes was excellent. Good accommodation and locations were also good. Learned a lot from Penny about photography and took some of the best photos I have ever taken. Saw lots of animals and birds. the local guides were also well informed, helpful and excellent overall. In summary this was an excellent trip and will certainly look to undertake further trips with Oryx.

We had a memorable trip to Madagascar We have just been there for a week but we had the impression being there for a month We saw so many great locations and species in different national parks And finally being on the western coast to Morondava with islands beach and baobab Allée was very special It was a great trip we would love to do again. Kirsten is a great guide ! Hotels were perfectly chosen and also the local guide was very good And the drivers were great what is very important on these difficult roads. Thanks to all Best Johannes
