This 5-days experience offers an intimate exploration of a region where Mediterranean landscapes, layered histories, and bold contemporary design converge to create a compelling architectural narrative.
It's an immersive exploration of Southern France’s architectural soul, set against the backdrop of springtime in the Mediterranean. from Marseille to Nice, this journey offers a rare look at how architecture shapes and is shaped by the rich cultural fabric of the Côte d'Azur region.
Our journey begins in Marseille, a port city with a rich tapestry of cultures and a dynamic architectural identity. From ancient Greek foundations to modern urban interventions, Marseille embodies a vibrant fusion of past and present.
Highlights include a visit to Le Corbusier’s iconic Cité Radieuse, a landmark of post-war modernism and social housing innovation. We'll also explore the MuCEM (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations) by Rudy Ricciotti, which masterfully blends modern materials with traditional Mediterranean aesthetics. A guided walking tour through the Panier district will reveal Marseille’s evolving urban fabric—from ancient alleyways to revitalized public spaces.
Next, we move inland to Aix-en-Provence, a city of art, light, and classical charm. Renowned for its harmonious proportions and refined urbanism, Aix offers a contrast to Marseille’s raw dynamism.
We’ll visit the Château Lacoste, a wonderful example of art, nature and architecture.
Our journey concludes along the dazzling Côte d’Azur, where the Mediterranean light has long inspired architects, artists, and designers.
We'll venture to Eileen Gray’s Villa E-1027 in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, a modernist masterpiece perched dramatically above the sea and view the nearby Cabanon de Le Corbusier, a tiny, radical experiment in modular living. Additional highlights include recent works by French Riviera-based architects who blend luxury, sustainability, and regional tradition.
In Nice, we’ll explore the evolving urban waterfront, including the Promenade des Anglais, a lush ribbon of public space integrating landscape architecture with civic life and depp into french gastronomy with the Vieux Nice quarter.
