      About this trip

Africa is a destination that captures the imagination of travelers like no other. Once considered the “Dark Continent” it remains mysterious and alluring in the travel imagination  Imprint’s Southern Africa includes the best the continent has to offer and the most diverse 12 days that can be had on a tour. We start with thundering Victoria Falls – “The Smoke that Thunders” as it was known by the natives. Then it is amazing game-viewing with 5 days of safari in Zimbabwe and Botswana. Then, with a complete change of scenery we conclude in vibrant Capetown. We’ll venture to Cape Point, photograph penguins, sample wine, ascend Table Mountain, and enjoy Africa’s most engaging urban center. For those who choose to extend to Namibia, we’ll experience another entirely new ecosystem as we explore the desert state.

We at Imprint Tours believe travel broadens horizons, introduces new ways to see the world, equips us with a new frame of reference for evaluating our own society, breaks down prejudice, and promotes global understanding. Therefore, we endeavor to “Travel with Intent”: an intention to take a reflective, introspective approach; connect with the cultures we visit; and balance the enjoyment of discovery with responsible travel. We want our “imprint” on the planet to be light and our “imprint” on the local culture to be positive.

Imprint Tours' Southern Africa trip was promoted by Sarah Murdoch (Adventures with Sarah) in the Spring of 2022 and the itinerary looked fabulous, with stops in Zimbabwe (Victoria Falls), Botswana (Chobe National Park with multiple game drives), and Cape Town and I signed up right away. I also added the 6-day Namibia extension because the itinerary looked too good to pass up and I decided that I wanted to see as much as possible in case this ended up being my only trip to Southern Africa. I was surprised that Reid didn't lead the trip and this fact only became apparent when our group met for the first time. Sarah ended up acting as Reid's spokesperson and managed the trip expenses, but this was also her first trip to Africa and she was more point person than guide. Our guide was Todd Mentz and his knowledge and enthusiasm enhanced our overall experience throughout Southern Africa. Unfortunately, Todd did not end up accompanying us on the Namibia extension as originally planned and we ended up being WITHOUT a local guide, in two separate vans, for the entire Namibia portion of the extension. In my opinion, the value of the Namibia extension, as currently designed, isn't worth the time or money. It's also my understanding that Sarah will be providing feedback to Reid regarding ways to improve the overall itinerary (i.e., do it in reverse - Cape Town, Botswana, Victoria Falls) and fly into Windhoek to begin the Namibia extension instead of driving five days through the desert. Highlights included a helicopter ride over Victoria Falls, an Elephant Encounter (free time activity and a personal expense), the up-close animal encounters on the game drives (the absolute highlight!), and the drive out to Cape Point from Cape Town and the day trip to Stellenbosch to visit multiple wineries. While the visit to Sossusvlei and Dead Vlie was certainly the highlight of the Namibia extension it was in no way worth the 37 hours of travel time in cramped, dust-filled vans unsuited for the unpaved gravel road conditions. Downsides: The Cape Town hotel (Daddy Long Legs) was unsanitary and located in a very unsafe area (Sarah was able to move us to an alternative location for three of our scheduled four nights in Cape Town) and the entire Namibia extension (no guide and transportation issues) made for a very bad lasting impression of what could have been a memorable trip. I would not recommend this tour in its present form and I have privately passed along additional feedback and suggestions to Reid regarding how he can improve the overall experience for his customers. Based on this experience, I would not book another trip with Imprint Tours. ***The 2-star rating is the average of a 3-star rating for the Southern Africa tour and a 1-star rating for the Namibia Extension.***

4.5 stars. The trip was was wonderful and South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe were magical, a once in a lifetime experience. There was one very questionable hotel choice in Cape Town that I definitely DO NOT recommend for future tours (safety and hygiene issues) but luckily our guides listened and responded to our concerns. Highly recommend this tour!

Japan was one of those destinations I didn’t know I needed to see. Thankfully a travel buddy suggested this trip, and I’m so glad we had this experience. Imprint gave us a whirlwind trip of the country. While it was a busy itinerary, we got to see and experience so much. Japan is a very modern country with a rich history. I felt our two weeks touring Japan gave us a broad overview. The local guide, Hiro. was exceptional He told us the story about his amazing country and patiently guided us through all the modes of transportation. This was our fourth Imprint tour, and while each destination has its charm and interest, Japan is one you need to add to your must-see list.

We enjoyed our trip. The accommodations and group dinners were excellent. Our local guide, Hiro was excellent. This tour was much more rigorous than expected. By the end of the tour, members were exhausted. Organization and daily communications of activities need to be improved. More diversity in site seeing highlights would have been appreciated. There were too many activities and rapid transportation changes daily. Reid indicated that he was revising the tour. This is appropriate.

This was a very active trip and we saw a lot of Japan's greatest hits. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a Japan tour. Expect to be busy all day every day. Make sure your cell phone works in Japan (or buy a data SIM card on Amazon) as WhatsApp, Google Maps, and Google Translate are all invaluable.
