About your trip

The Southern Right Whales visit the coastal waters off Patagonia , creating an unforgettable nature spectacle with their presence. Every year, over a thousand whales migrate to Peninsula Valdes for birthing, reproduction, and nurturing their offspring from June to December. Puerto Pirámides is the only town within the Peninsula Valdes, a territory declared a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is a small town within a bay surrounded by cliffs, with a fine sand beach and its own microclimate. It is the gateway to make sightings of the southern right whale, one of the most extraordinary experiences of contact with marine fauna in the world.

The region we are exploring is under stringent regulations due to its unique characteristics. This extraordinary creature is highly valued, prompting dedicated efforts from both the local community and the government to ensure the continued protection of the whales in this area.

To maximize the chance of interactions, two guests will be given the opportunity to enter the water with the whales simultaneously. Unlike some other species, these whales typically do not withdraw quickly, providing ample opportunities for photographing if approached slowly and carefully.

Join us for an intimate experience with these magnificent creatures, as they migrate to the southern shores of Patagonia, offering a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness their breathtaking displays and nurturing behaviors.

Prerequisites & Recommendations

Every participant must be fit for swimming and snorkeling

Every participant must be able to climb up the ladder to get back on the boat.

Divers and non-divers alike

Expect to spend long hours on boats

Scuba diving/snorkeling is done in cold water. Bring the appropriate gear (7-9mm smoothskin wetsuit or drysuit to get in the water. We prefer wetsuits over drysuits as drysuit will limit your mobility for swimming and freediving.)

Strobes for camera are NOT allowed

Accommodation

We will stay at a local hotel in Puerto Piramides where we will provide everything you need for the trip, taking into account that some services may be slower or not accessible than what you are used to.

The accommodation is basic, clean and safe with hot water, wifi connection.

Please note: We will have double occupancy rooms. When sharing we assign rooms with group members of the same gender.

Single occupancy can be arranged upon request at an extra cost and subject to availability.

Boat

We will be using a RIB due to its versatility, speed and ability to cope with challenging conditions. The boat has a ladder and a platform to climb back up.

Bring sea sickness medication if needed, boat coat or warm jacket, buff, beanie, and sunglasses. We will spend long hours on the boat and we’ll be exposed to the wind and cold.
