Day 4 - Boquete image

Thursday

The morning begins with a visit to Finca Dos Jefes. The seven acre farm is 1450 meters above sea level. Dee Harris and Rich Lipner purchased the abandoned coffee farm in 2003 and began the ongoing process of reclaiming the land and improving the quality of the coffee. They added many new plants and now grow seven varieties of Arabica coffee: Pacamara, Heirloom Bourbon, Geisha, along with the original Caturra, Catuai, Criollo and Catimor.

After lunch in Boquete, you will have special access to another coffee farm off-the-beaten path. The roasting equipment on this unique farm was built by the owner from recycled goods, the family car, and a washing machine. You will receive a personal tour to the history of the inner workings of the farm during production.

Friday

Following breakfast, you will check out of Isla Verde and shuttle to a luxurious, boutique hotel and working coffee farm, where you will stay for the final two nights. Upon arrival at Finca Lerida, you will experience their coffee tour, begining in the fields where you get a glimpse of the three vital factors that influence the coffee’s quality: the soil, the micro-climate, and the particular genetics of the variety. What makes this tour unique, besides the invaluable ecological reserve that the coffee plantation shares, is its owner and history. The farm was developed by Toleff Boche Monniche, a Norwegian engineer and graduate from the Royal College of Dresden, Germany, who worked on the design and construction of the Panama Canal’s emergency gates. The tour ends at the Tasting Table where the long, intense and complex coffee process ends. This is also the place where you find out whether or not a whole year’s work produced a high quality coffee.

After the morning coffee tour and lunch in town, you will have a free afternoon to enjoy the many opportunities available to visitors of Boquete, or return to Finca Lerida to leisurely hike the many trails of the farm, or simply relax in the gorgeous setting. If you want more local activity information, such as hiking, massage, visiting a butterfly sanctuary and honey farm, a 4.5km zipline canopy tour, and more, please send an inquiry..
