About this trip

A motorcycle journey through Spiti is an adventure into one of the most remote and spectacular corners of the Himalayas. Riding high above the tree line, the route winds through vast barren valleys, ancient monasteries, remote villages and some of the world’s highest roads, with snow-capped peaks rising all around. Each day brings a new landscape and a sense of true exploration, from dramatic mountain passes and rough trails to moments of complete solitude on roads that disappear into the horizon. Spiti is raw, remote and unforgettable — a place where the journey itself becomes the adventure.

Day 2

Day 2 image

Delhi > Chandigarh (flight) Chandigarh > Kufri (van)

We take a domestic flight from Delhi to Chandigarh. Upon arrival, a support vehicle transfers the group from the Punjab plains into the foothills of Himachal Pradesh. Most of the way up is on a wide highway that winds up the mountain. With a couple of

coffee and lunch breaks, we reach the hill town of Kufri, perched above Shimla. Cooler temperatures, mountain air, and panoramic Himalayan views mark the true beginning of the adventure.

Day 3

Day 3 image

Kufri > Rampur Bushahr

Today, the riding truly begins. Depart Kufri and leave the main highway behind as you enter a network of narrow single-track mountain roads weaving through pine forests, remote hamlets, and endless apple orchards. The route follows old trading paths with spectacular valley views and riding that offers a perfect warm-up for the days ahead. By afternoon, we descend toward the Sutlej River and arrive in the historic town of Rampur Bushahr, the summer getaway of the Bushahr Dynasty. After checking in, go for a stroll through the market or relax in the hotels garden.

Day 4

Day 4 image

Rampur Bushahr > Sangla Valley

Ride deeper into Kinnaur today, taking scenic back roads that cling dramatically to the mountainsides. The terrain becomes increasingly rugged as the road traces the Sutlej River through narrow canyons and towering cliffs. Eventually, turn away from the main gorge and climb into the breathtaking Sangla Valley where snow-capped peaks rise above the villages and lush green meadows.

Day 5

Day 5 image

Sangla Valley > Kalpa

Begin the morning riding to Chitkul, the last inhabited village before the Indo-Tibetan border that is surrounded by dramatic peaks and glacial river. After briefly exploring the village and soaking in the scenery, we retrace the route back to the main road before continuing toward Kalpa. Famous for its uninterrupted views of the Kinner Kailash range,

Kalpa is one of the highlights of Kinnaur.

Days 6 & 7

Days 6 & 7 image

Kalpa > The Doksa, Siluk

Once we have secured our Inner Line Permits, we enter the high-altitude desert landscapes of Spiti. Ride past the dramatic cliffside roads of Kinnaur and continue through the high village of Nako where we stop for lunch. We then descend down to Tabo, home to one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayas. Before the sun sets, we arrive at a premium two night stopover at a brand-new boutique eco-property nestled in the valley. It is time to slow down and continue our immersive experience of this region.
