Join George for this 6 day wildlife photography tour and adventure in Northern Greece where we will take in spring migration in full swing as well as photographing Golden Jackals from a dedicated hide at the marvelous Lake Kerkini.

Lake kerkini is an incredibly important lake and wetland and breeding ground to the iconic Dalmatian Pelicans. Lake Kerkini is an epicentre for migrating birds arriving from Africa in the spring to find their partners, nest and raise their young before heading back to  over-winter again in Africa.

We will undertake photography:

• by boat in the riparian forest heronry at the heart of Lake Kerkini getting really close to nesting cormorants, herons, spoonbills and glossy ibis,

• shooting bee-eaters from mobile hides,

• an amazing opportunity to use floating hides for eye-level views of Great crested Grebe courtships

• and the culmination of the trip, photographing the very elusive Golden Jackals from an exclusive purpose built hide.

Amongst many more species, the following birds will be on our hit  list… Purple Herons, Squacco Herons, Black-crowned Night Herons, Little  Bittern, White storks, Black storks, Penduline Tits, Bee-eaters,  Hoopoes, Cuckoos, Grey-headed Woodpeckers, Black Woodpeckers, Golden Orioles, Red-backed Shrike, Woodchat Shrike, Little Owls, Eagle Owls,  and many more.

During down time there's also the opportunity to see and photograph many insect species in our macro excursions including butterflies, moths, dragonflies, damselflies and a multitude of of different bugs from the massive to the miniscule…  Hummingbird Hawk moths, Swallowtails, Scarce Chasers and Scarlet  Darters, Zygaena Loti, Black Oil Beetles and trundling Dung Beetles to name but a few.

Reptiles & amphibians will include tortoises and turtles, tree frogs and toads, Green Lizards and Snakes.. Caspian Whipsnakes, Water  Snakes, Dice Snakes, Adders, Glass Snakes & Horned Vipers.

Arrivals - meet at Thessaloniki Airport & transfer to hotel at Kerkini about 90 mins away

0600 - 0900 : Pre-dawn rise for 3 hour shoot from the boat out on the lake; We will travel into the mouth of the Strymonas River and. float amongst the trees of the Riparian Forest to photograph the nesting cormorants, herons, egrets, spoonbills & glossy ibis

1000 - 1200 : Return to the hotel for a hearty Breakfast

1400 to 2030 : Golden Jackals Hide

0600 - 1000 : photography from the floating hides - great crested grebes courtship

1000 - 1200 : Breakfast & break

1200 - 2000 : mobile hides for Bee-eaters & safari

0600 - 0900 : Pre-dawn rise for 3 hour shoot from the boat out on the lake; We will travel into the mouth of the Strymonas River and. float amongst the trees of the Riparian Forest to photograph the nesting cormorants, herons, egrets, spoonbills & glossy ibis

1000 - 1200 : Return to the hotel for a hearty Breakfast

1400 to 2030 : Safari - Penduline tits, Little Bittern & Eagle Owl

0600 - 0900 : Safari & Pop-up hides


1000 - 1400 : Return to the hotel for a hearty Breakfast & break


1400 to 1800 : Golden Jackals from the purpose built hide

Breakfast & depart for the Airport for flights home
