About this trip

Join Alok Rochelau and Anjuli Mahendra for the adventure of a lifetime in beautiful Sri Lanka! We will be offering our signature, all-levels Hatha & Contact Yoga sessions sure to nourish, strengthen, and revitalize your body. If you appreciate adventurous travel and mindful eco-design paired with permaculture values and indigenous practices, this is the retreat for you! We've taken special care to host our retreat at an extraordinary center that prioritizes sustainable and indigenous design in harmony with the environment and local community. The owners of the center treat their guests as family and we'll have plenty of time to explore the 50- acre property and learn about the systems they have put in place. During this retreat, we will have the opportunity to visit local temples and historical sites, experience traditional Sri Lankan cuisine, and of course learn from our hosts about local lifestyle practices.  We'll also have the unique treat of exploring the surrounding area by bike or tuk tuk-- including a trip to the local Buddhist temple and Tonigala Rock Inscription. In addition to local excursions, we'll carve out two afternoons to check out World Heritage Sites and Nature Adventures for those that are interested. Take this unique opportunity to experience authentic Sri Lankan culture, immerse in nature, and deepen your yoga and wellness practice. Limited space, so reserve your spot today!

The Practice

We'll be welcoming new and old friends alike to join us for this amazing opportunity to study, immerse, and nourish in beautiful Sri Lanka! If this is your first time practicing with Anjuli and Alok, you can expect heart-felt, all-levels morning yoga classes to revitalize the body and provide space for reflection and nourishment. Afternoon sessions will feature our signature Contact Yoga classes weaving together practices from partner yoga, connection exercises, and Thai massage instruction. Both our movement and bodywork teaching is framed by the Buddhist prinicple of Metta (Loving-kindness) and the Chinese 5 Elements. You will come away with wonderful exercises and practices that you can take back home and practice regularly. To support your practice upon returning home, we will provide you with a series of videos that will allow you to seamlessly stay connected.

The Venue

We will be hosting this one of a kind retreat at the stunningly beautiful eco-center, The Mudhouse, just 2.5 hours north of Colombo. This award-winning, conscientious center captured our hearts with it's commitment to regenerative practices, beautiful design features rooted in indigenous design, and caring owners and staff. We're confident you''ll also be taken by this wonderful gem.

The Teachers

Anjuli Mahendra, LMT is the founder of Embodied Resonance offering transformational retreats, integrated bodywork, and coaching that focus on opening the body to it’s highest potential.  Her initiation into somatics started in 1999 with a dedicated yoga practice and since then has trained in Iyengar, Hatha, and Shadow Yoga as well as Contact Improvisation and Acro-yoga. She has studied both movement and healing arts intensively in India, Thailand, Hawaii, and Bali both giving her a well-rounded, non-dogmatic approach to her teaching. In conjunction with teaching since 2003, she is a board certified massage therapist (1000+ hrs) with a private practice integrating Connective-tissue, Thai, and Chi Nei Tsang bodywork.

One of Anjuli’s teaching specialties is Contact Yoga, her signature blend of partner stretching, contact improvisation, and Thai massage that gives students an opportunity to explore a wide breadth of movement including restorative weight-sharing, dynamic partner lifts, and healing touch. This practice bridges multiple disciplines and encourages curiosity, connection, and trust amongst her students.

Anjuli is known for her creative teaching and deep, healing touch which helps her students to explore new pathways of movement and connection with ease and joy. She teaches Hatha & Contact Yoga, Thai Massage, and Rejuvenate workshops and retreats in the US and abroad. www.anjulimahendra.com
