Enjoy a leisurely morning before we board the Panorama II for our seven-night cruise around the collection of French Polynesian islands known as the Society Islands. The ship is just ours, as we have chartered the Panorama II for the week! After settling into our comfortable cabins, we will set sail for Bora Bora.

Early this morning we will arrive in Bora Bora, perhaps the most photographed place on earth! The ship will sail into the Bora Bora lagoon and drop anchor for an overnight stay set against the backdrop of Mount Otemanu rising proudly from the lagoon’s center. Today’s included excursion will be an island tour by “Le Truck.” We’ll board a comfortable, open-air truck and embark on a leisurely tour to explore the daily life of Bora Bora’s Tahitians, witness the making of pareo, learn about tupa crabs, taste local fruits, and hear about relics left behind by the U.S. Military.

The morning is yours to do as you wish in paradise! After lunch we will sail to Huahine and overnight at anchor in the lagoon.

Once home to Tahitian royalty, Huahine is considered the cradle of Polynesian culture. Its two islands maintain the largest concentration of ancient marae (temples) in French Polynesia, some of which are believed to date back to around 700 AD. Huahine is a colossal tropical jungle filled with coconut plantations, vanilla orchids, banana groves, breadfruit trees, and watermelon fields. Our full-day excursion will take us to many of Huahine’s sacred sites and legendary places. We will set off to explore the island and learn about Polynesian geology, botany, anthropology, archaeology, sociology, economy, history, and traditions. Visits to the small villages of Maeva and Fare, an archaeological site, a vanilla plantation, and the home of the sacred blue-eyed eels are included, along with a delicious lunch on a beautiful motu (small island).

We will set sail this morning to the island of Taha’a, which shares a magnificent lagoon with Raiatea Island. The fertile island is covered with bananas, watermelons, and coconuts, and it also acts as a vast natural greenhouse for the treasured Tahitian vanilla orchid. Today’s half-day tour will have us exploring the beautiful interior of the island by 4x4 vehicle. We’ll have the opportunity to taste the local fruit and admire the breathtaking views of the magnificent turquoise waters of Ha’amene Bay. The highlights of the tour will be a visit to a pearl farm and a traditional vanilla plantation. There will also be plenty of time this afternoon for swimming and snorkeling. Tonight we will overnight at anchor.

A short sail across the lagoon will bring us to Raiatea, which translates to “faraway heaven” and “sky with soft light.” Originally known as Havai’i, Raiatea is considered the homeland of ancient Polynesians. Our tour this morning will introduce us to the highlights of Raiatea with a panoramic drive through the main town of Uturoa and stunning views of Mount Temehani. This mountain is the only place on earth where the tiari apetahi flower grows. When the sun touches this extremely rare flower each morning, the petals open with a slight crackling sound! The highlight of the tour will be the ancient Marae Taputapuatea, a UNESCO-protected site with a fascinating history. Late in the evening, we will set sail for Mo’orea.
