For most stroke patients, the inability to recover from the shock that a stroke just hit them could be a setback for the road to recovery. With the incorporation of stroke rehabilitation program within their hospital stay and aftercare, it allows stroke patients to get back on their feet on their own through various rehabilitation activities.
To achieve the long term outcome, it is best that families of stroke patients provide the never-ending emotional and physical support for the loved ones.
Stroke patients may have the following problems that include incontinence, weakness and numbness on one side of the body, inability to dress or feed themselves, inability to visit the toilet or shower on their own, inability to express their feelings and emotions or understand language and instructions, memory loss, mood disturbances or swallowing problems. The most severe cases requires a stroke patient to be handicapped in mobility and as such, requires them to be in bed 24/7. This is especially stressful for the patients and their families.
