About your trip

16 day guided,, safe, fun trip to southern Peru to see and learn of Inca and pre-Incan cultures and history.  Hike fantastic ruins, eat the best food in the world, visit and eat with local people, visit Machu Picchu and the Amazon Rainforest.


Opportunity to visit  local children and give out school supplies, toothbrushes, girls hair adornments, clothes, etc..


This program was design and improved upon over the past 10 years with Suffolk Country Community College Professor George H. Monahan, Ph.D. Professor Monahan coordinates and leads student groups to Peru to travel and lecture on Peru's history. ILE Tours facilitates these trips with great success yearly.


We can provide this same program to any student group interested in learning more about the history, culture and significance of the great Inca and pre-Incan societies.

Day 01

Arrive to Lima

After you clear immigrations, retrieve your luggage and pass through customs you will be greeted in the LIM terminal and taken by private van to Miraflores, Lima (40 mins) to check in to your hotel. Once you enter the terminal take your time and look for your driver with our blue & gold  ILE Tours sign. Many taxi drivers will approach you but do not go with anyone but our driver. DO not take a taxi to your hotel. Overnight Lima.

Day 02

Lima-Juliaca flight (90 min). Transfer to Puno (45 min)

You will be greeted in your hotel and taken by private van to the Lima airport in time for your flight to Juliaca (90 min). You will be greeted in Juliaca and taken by private van to Puno (45 min) to check in. Overnight Puno. (B)

Day 03

Tour Lake Titicaca, Uros, Taquile (lunch). Overnight Amantani Island


After an excellent breakfast you will be taken to Lake Titicaca (10 minutes) for a visit to the floating man-made Islands of Uros on a group motor yacht tour. Here you will meet, up-close the citizens who have preserved their old traditions and still live on the water. The motor yacht tour then continues to the island of Taquile, inhabited by native Quechuas. On Taquile you can appreciate and purchase some of the finest handmade crafts and basket weavings in Perú to support the very friendly and welcoming island people. Typical lunch included on Taquile of fresh lake trout or a vegetarian option. Overnight Amantani Island family home stay. All day on and off boat. Jackets, brimmed hats, water and sunscreen are essential. (B,L,D)

Day 04

Amantani Island-Puno

After lunch say goodbye to your host family and return to Puno in the late afternoon by motor yacht. Cold, windy and sunny on the lake. 2 hr boat ride back to Puno. Hats, jackets, brimmed hats and sunscreen today. Overnight Puno. (B)

Day 05

Private van/tours/lunch Puno-Acomayo

After breakfast check out and be sure to leave nothing behind in Puno. Hotel greeting to head north out of Puno towards Acomayo and Cusco. First stop to see the chulpas at Sillustani, ancient burial cylinders built to honor ancestors who were worshipped. Next stop at the museum at Pukaraou to see ancient pre-Incans artifacts. La Raya is a quick, cold stop at 14000 ft (4,300 meters) to take some great pictures. From here you will descend in elevation. Stop for lunch in Sillustani before arriving to Raqchi and the temple remains, a very clean site. When you arrive to Acomayo you will be taken to your hotel to check in. Dinner, drinks in local house to meet local people. Overnight Acomayo. (B, L, D)

Day 06

Huacrapucara hike

Early morning Acomayo departure by car to the start of the hike. Hats, water, sunscreen and backpack for overnight camping. 3-4 hr hike to the spectacular site of Huacrapucara overlooking the Apurimac Valley which was obviously a defensive position. Ruins built amongst a huge rock bloom that you can climb up and into. Few if any tourists will be there. All day medium to difficult hiking to reach camp site. Very cold at night. Overnight camping. Huacrapucara hike / car - Acomayo

After breakfast, camp breakdown and final look around at the magnificent views it will be time to hike and drive back to Acomayo. Horses will be available. It takes about 3.5 hrs to get back to where our cars will be waiting to take us back to Acomayo and dinner. Overnight hotel Acomayo. (B, L)

Private van Acomayo-Cusco

Opportunities to visit local church with ancient fresco depicting the 13 Incas in an old church that was converted into a water mill. These are the only such painting in all of Peru. See a unique mummy collection in the local high school. Visit local school to give whatever school supplies or gifts you wish bring to give to local kids. Lunch with local family. Stop in Andahuayillas Cathedral on your way to Cusco. Overnight Cusco. (B, L)

Private Cusco City Tour (½ Day afternoon)

At 2PM you will be met at your hotel to enjoy the wonderful sites around the city. Visit Koricancha- Temple of the Sun near the center of Cusco. Sacsayhuaman- 15 minutes outside of Cusco with huge walls comprised of monolithic stones, Q’enqo – a small cave like structure used in Inca ceremones, Pucapucara- the small fortress and Tambomachay with its fountains and small canals. All of these sites are near each other and played an important part in the Inca’s ceremonies religious and civic. After completion of the tour you will be returned to your hotel. Overnight Cusco. You will be picked up at your hotel to begin your tour of the beautiful Sacred Valley. This ride through the land of the Incas first stops in Pisaq where the perfect stonework rivals anything you will see in Machu Picchu. In the afternoon enjoy a typical Andean buffet lunch in a hacienda on the Urubama River. Stop in the market in Urubamba to see all the local food that is grown here. Shop for fruit if you wish. Finally arrive to the old Inca Town of Ollantaytambo with it's narrow streets, small mountain fed canals and houses laid out much as they were 500 years ago. Wander, take pictures visit small shops, artist studios and get a demonstration of how wool is died using natural ingredients. If you wish, climb the magnificent wall of Ollantaytambo. Rugged steps rise high above the small town to see where and how the Incas guarded the Sacred Valley to the north. More Inca miraculous cut stones await you at the top of the wall. You can hike the small mountain trails here for a full day if you wished.It gets windy and cold here before sundown. Return to your hotel late afternoon. Overnight Ollantaytambo. (B, L)

Ollanta-Aguas Calientes train

After breakfast and check out be sure to leave nothing behind in the room. Leave your luggage with the hotel and explore Ollantaytambo before your afternoon train to Aguas Calientes. Walk the small streets with their small mountain fed canals to get different views of the wall and ruins. Train Ollanta-Aguas Calientes (90 min) through steep valley walls along the Vilcanota River. Overnight Aguas Calientes. (B)

Day 12

Private tour Machu Picchu. Aguas Calientes – Cusco train/van

Bring passport with you up to the Machu Picchu Park Entrance to receive souvenir stamp


You will be met by your guide to walk to the buses to take you up to Machu Picchu’s entrance (20 min). Enjoy 2 hrs with your guide then have plenty of time to hike and explore the park on you own. Machu Picchu was probably an estate of the Inca Pachacutec, who also designed Cusco. It was a town with individual homes for nobility made in the classical Inca style with polished dry-stone walls. Its 3three primary structures are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. The magnificence of this site is fully appreciate at sunrise. As the mist rises just after sunrise the site itself is revealed to you. Like a saddle straddling a mountaintop, Machu Picchu sits hidden amongst other spectacular surrounding mountains. When finished take one of the continuous running buses back down to Aguas Calientes. Many restaurants of all qualities in the town of Aguas Calientes. Train/van back Aguas Calientes-Cusco. Overnight Cusco. (B)

Day 13, 14 & 15

3/2 Amazon Jungle Lodge

Cusco hotel greeting and private transfer to the Cusco airport for 30 minute flight east to the Amazon and the Puerto Maldonado Airport. Airport greeting and transfer by van and longboat to the jungle lodge. Daily jungle excursions and meals including while in the jungle. 


Fantastic jungle excursions with very knowledgeable naturalist Amazon guide. Locally grown food prepared wonderfully by lodge chefs over the next 3 days.


On the last day after breakfast and check out. You will be taken to the Puerto Maldonado airport by van and longboat  in time for your flight to Lima. Lima airport greeting and transfer to Miraflores Hotel. (B)

You will be picked up in your hotel 4 hrs before your international departure.
