About this trip

Escape the winter blahs with a shopping day trip to Durham and Raleigh.  The trip features, The Streets of Southpoint in Durham which is always popular with my passengers due to the abundance of options not available to us at our Coastal homes.  Here are just a few worth mentioning, Macy's, Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack, Crate and Barrel, Sur la Table, Apple, Anthropologie, Brighton and Cole Haan.  There will also be plenty of time to enjoy lunch with friends at full service options such as The Cheesecake Factory, Nordstrom Cafe Bistro or Zinburger Wine & Burger.  A Food Court is available for the more serious shoppers.

On the way home, we stop in Raleigh at the NC State Farmers Market.  There are three buildings to enjoy here.  Building One filled with early spring plants and produce from local farms.  Building Two features local handmade foods and crafts and Building Three is home to Market Imports.  Market Imports is a sprawling home & garden shop offering a large furniture collection, home collectables, vintage & decorative landscaping items.

I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!

Really enjoyed visiting New Bern and watching the musical. The city is beautiful and we will definitely return to do more exploring. Many thanks to Patty for arranging this trip.

We had a relaxing trip. Had time for a very good lunch and some fun shops. The play was interesting. I enjoyed learning about that time in history.

For me, there was not enough information given about the house and the man that built it. We spent the better part of two days in the bus traveling and only spent about two hours touring the house. And for me, but not my wife, there was way too much time allotted for shopping. I can appreciate those who enjoyed the Downton Abbey display, but I had not watched the tv show and would much rather spent time in the Biltmore house or on the grounds. I did get some information from photographs and writings on the wall of the hotel and from the lecture in the church in the village. But, with so much to learn, I did not think we allocated our time efficiently. Jim Gunther
