Hike and Destination
Celebrate the first weekend in June with a gorgeous, iconic Bay Area hike up the southern flank of Mt. Tam, approximately 2 miles. We will gather at 2pm on Friday June 7th at Bootjack campground parking lot and enjoy a guided hike with mindful walking and mini yoga practices along the way, pausing to forage for forest teas, and to appreciate the beauty and resilience of the trees, the wildflowers, and the late-spring lushness. If you need to arrive later, feel free to hike up on your own, but try to arrive by 6:30pm. If arriving later, plan on about 1 hour for the hike. Detailed directions will be provided to registrants. Rain or Shine!
Accommodation
We will have the extraordinary privilege of staying at an historic Bay Area hidden gem – a hike-in only inn with cliff-side cabins perched on a spectacular ridge overlooking the extraordinary San Francisco Bay, its islands, hills, cities and bridges. The Inn was built in 1904 at the westernmost stop on the former Mt. Tamalpais Scenic Railway, and offers very simple accommodations, a fantastic chef’s kitchen (where we will all participate in various ways to craft our communal meals), indoor lounges and decks offering the most spectacular views that will take your breath away! Views, wildflowers and wildlife everywhere! The Inn is off-grid, meaning that it is not heated except by fireplace and wood stove, and is not served by electricity. Illumination is by gaslit lamps.
Yoga/Meditation/Activities
Opportunity for additional hiking to the peak Friday afternoon, as you wish; guided yoga practice before dinner; joyful group participation in preparing/cleaning up our communal evening meal; evening gathering for forest tea, song circle, puzzles, games, sunset ritual, dark sky star-gazing. Saturday morning yoga practice, hearty communally prepared breakfast,.sEach person is expected to participate in a short seva (service job to help maintain the historic inn), before we depart. Checkout is at 11am, after which we will take a beautiful, approximately 2-3 mile forest hike to return. Opportunity for additional hike to/lunch at Stinson Beach on Saturday for those who just can't get enough steps and Bay Area beauty! Mountain Home Inn also serves lunch (without any extra hiking!)
