About this trip

Hike and Destination

Celebrate the first weekend in June with a gorgeous, iconic Bay Area hike up the southern flank of Mt. Tam, approximately 2 miles. We will gather at 2pm on Friday June 7th at Bootjack campground parking lot and enjoy a guided hike with mindful walking and mini yoga practices along the way, pausing to forage for forest teas, and to appreciate the beauty and resilience of the trees, the wildflowers, and the late-spring lushness. If you need to arrive later, feel free to hike up on your own, but try to arrive by 6:30pm. If arriving later, plan on about 1 hour for the hike. Detailed directions will be provided to registrants. Rain or Shine!

Accommodation

We will have the extraordinary privilege of staying at an historic Bay Area hidden gem – a hike-in only inn with cliff-side cabins perched on a spectacular ridge overlooking the extraordinary San Francisco Bay, its islands, hills, cities and bridges. The Inn was built in 1904 at the westernmost stop on the former Mt. Tamalpais Scenic Railway, and offers very simple accommodations, a fantastic chef’s kitchen (where we will all participate in various ways to craft our communal meals), indoor lounges and decks offering the most spectacular views that will take your breath away! Views, wildflowers and wildlife everywhere! The Inn is off-grid, meaning that it is not heated except by fireplace and wood stove, and is not served by electricity.  Illumination is by gaslit lamps.

Yoga/Meditation/Activities

Opportunity for additional hiking to the peak Friday afternoon, as you wish; guided yoga practice before dinner; joyful group participation in preparing/cleaning up our communal evening meal; evening gathering for forest tea, song circle, puzzles, games, sunset ritual, dark sky star-gazing. Saturday morning yoga practice, hearty communally prepared breakfast,.sEach person is expected to participate in a short seva (service job to help maintain the historic inn), before we depart.  Checkout is at 11am, after which we will take a beautiful, approximately 2-3 mile forest hike to return.  Opportunity for additional hike to/lunch at Stinson Beach on Saturday for those who just can't get enough steps and Bay Area beauty! Mountain Home Inn also serves lunch (without any extra hiking!)

SO
My sister and I had a wonderful time. The meals were delicious and healthy and the accommodations were very comfortable despite the area receiving 10" of snow and the power getting knocked out on the first day! Riassa did a wonderful job leading us through yoga twice daily that was restorative and insightful. She always does a great job "reading the room" and supplying helpful instruction where needed. The staff at the retreat center went "above and beyond" to accommodate us and keep us comfortable despite the weather. I will be coming back and I highly recommend!! Thank you Riassa and Bell Valley Retreat Center staff. Thank you to Wild Heart Ayurveda for braving the conditions and cooking throughout the retreat!

This trip was full of intense, mindful, breathful yoga, restorative yoga/meditation and amazing food in a spectacular location. Raissa is a master. She is an amazing light who encourages us to bring our strongest self to the mat, letting breath lead the way, while also reminding us to have compassion for where we are at any given moment. As a guide, she is completely uplifting, instilling confidence and gratitude to all that practice with her. This was my second trip with Raissa and there will be many more!

Feeling so fortunate to work with Raissa of Soul Power Yoga and the team she pulled together to gather in Boonville this past weekend for her Inspire Your Practice 3 Day Yoga Retreat. Bell Valley Retreat and the lands in which it sits is nothing short of pure magic and Raissa is an incredible teacher and human being. I highly recommend any space she holds. My focus was, and I was invited to, support retreat participants via my massage therapy/embodiment offerings, but I was able to attend her last practice of the retreat. I can honestly say it was one of the best, heart opening classes I’ve experienced. I felt so connected to the amazing group of people she brought together and the energy created. Soaking it all in and reflecting on what it means to step into my best self and what kind of Ancestor I get to be. Thank you for the experience Raissa ❤️
