About your trip

2026/7 Dates TBD - join our waitlist to be the first to know (this trip sells out fast!)

This is a once in a lifetime experience to not only ride horses on pristine white beaches and mountain trails with fabulous views, but also to hang out with them on the beach and play/swim with them in the ocean!

A treat for ALL the senses - and a physical, emotional, spiritual dose of pure joy.

Wonderful Guides / Horse Partners

This trip is a collaboration between Tula Vida (www.tulavida.com) and Enrique, his family and his horse herd (many are babies of Tula Vida herd members!).  It takes place on the Northern, deserted beaches of the Pacific Coast in Costa Rica.

All the horses are great to ride (for all levels) - willing, connected, huge-hearted partners.

Horse-riding

Riding trails vary depending on weather / what the group wants to do (we can customise), but typically we will ride for 2-3 hours each morning through mountainous farms with great views or along local beaches or ocean side paths, ending up at a wonderful beach for lunch and hanging out with the herd the rest of the afternoon - including taking the horses into the ocean to swim!  It is often optional to ride your horse home in the sunset or to get a ride in the car.

Delicious Food

Meals are home-cooked Costa Rica fare with fresh ingredients. We usually eat lunch at the beach and sometimes dinner too, while the horses relax in the sand eating hay and joining us to splash about in the water.

Simple Accommodation

Accommodation is in a simple, pretty basic, but clean and friendly local hotel.  We do not spend much time here, and it is not luxurious, but its magic is that the horses can stay onsite too so you get to hang out with them and - if you want to - be involved in feeding and bathing them each day.  This area is not at all touristy, so we get to stay local-style!

Note: the hotel does have a pool and is about a 10 minute drive to the beach.  You will have AC but you may not have hot water - so this trip is for those who prioritise adventure, amazing horses, great riding, off-the-beaten track, non-touristy experiences and loads of horse-time over luxury.

Weather

Between December and mid-May, beach weather is typically hot and dry (subject to strange global weather!) so we ride in the mornings and find the shade and the cool water for the hottest parts of the day.

Mid-May to December is a mix of hot, dry periods and rain - so while there is a risk of getting wet it is generally cooler and everything looks green and lush.

Playing with Horses

-Enjoy a home-cooked breakfast each day at the hotel as the horses munch on their grain across the way

-Saddle up for a ride on a stunning farm or to the local viewpoint or even up to the Nicaragua border, meandering through dry forest trails or splashing along the white sand beaches

-Take the tack off so the horses can roll and enjoy the sand, and invite them into the surf for a refreshing splash

-Jump on bareback and feel the sensation of a horse swimming or paddle along side them as they show off their skills

- Retreat to the shade for a delicious cooked lunch, as the horses take a nap in the sand

-Hang out with your horse in the hammock or take a wander along the beach to spot the birds or monkeys

- Saddle up to ride home along the beach, hose off your horse (if you want to) and go for a dip in the pool before dinner at the hotel, or hang out together for a moonlit BBQ on the beach

- Enjoy a deep, restorative sleep to the rainforest soundtrack of cicadas after all the fresh air, abundant nature, good food and food for the senses
