Participant Experience: Embark on a journey that kicks off with a scenic hike and three exhilarating river crossings, one of which might feel more like a swim along a rope. While the water may initially feel brisk, it soon becomes invigorating. Navigating within the cave offers a completely unique experience. Some sections pose a challenge, as you wade through water ranging from ankle-deep to chest-high, navigating through a few narrow passages. As you approach the end, a thrilling ascent up boulders onto a ledge awaits. The final leg of the journey requires going barefoot, allowing you to fully appreciate breathtaking cave formations, ancient pottery, and skeletal remains before encountering the awe-inspiring crystal maiden.

Reviewer's Advice: This adventure is both exhilarating and accessible to anyone in reasonably good shape. The key is to choose the right attire:

      1. Opt for a Long Sleeve Rash Guard shirt to shield yourself from the sun during the hike and provide mosquito protection.
      2. Equip yourself with board shorts - for both men and women - as they are ideal for transitioning between wet and dry conditions. Ensure they are made of durable fabric, as they will come into contact with rocks during water crossings and tight spaces.
      3. Consider water shoes, with Keen strap-on water sandals being an excellent choice. Look for options with good traction for secure footing. If sneakers are your preference, opt for high-tops to prevent them from floating away while swimming.

Our driver was amazing. He waited for us due to a delay. Our flight was delayed due to an airplane fault. He drove well and progressively, making up some of the time we had lost. The return trip also was superb with a running commentary and local information from the driver along the way. We will recommend Barefoot travel and will certainly use them again

This travel agent can't seem to book or keep reservations. We arrived in Belize City about 45 minutes early on our flight from the US. After gathering our bags and passing through customs and immigration, our name wasn't on any of the signs for drivers to take us on our 2 hour shuttle to our resort. We called the agent who informed us our ride wouldn't be there for another 2+ hours. So, basically, even though they had our flight information for MONTHS, they couldn't be bothered to check the flight status of our flight. We then booked 4 tickets on our own as we didn't want to wait around for 2 hours followed by a 2+ hour shuttle to our hotel. The other chef's kiss from this agent was an email less than one week before we were to leave for our trip informing us that our flight from Placencia to Belize City had been moved from 9:30am to 7am. Never mind the "confirmation" itinerary PDF that they send us 2 months before the trip listing the 9:30 flight time and flight number. Apparently these Barefoot travel agents don't actually book your flight until it's too late and there aren't enough seats on the flight they promised. Thanks for 4.5 hours of sitting around at the BZE airport! I'd never use this travel agent again. No refunds help at ALL on the problems that were 100% their fault. In this day and age, I'm not sure what the purpose of this agency is. Just use the internet to book it yourself. You'll save yourself trouble and money.

Megs did a wonderful job of including all our requests of activities for planning the trip, even scheduling in rest days. Megs and her crew were great! They were very responsive and adaptable while we were on the tour. I would book a tour with them again.
