Join us in this unique opportunity to travel as a Denver ambassador in a 11-day cultural immersion tour with Denver Sister Cities International to Japan. 

Experience Japan in the Fall with stops in Takayama, Kanazawa, and Tokyo. Explore the history, traditions and culture of Japan while seeing Japan's fall colors in Gifu prefecture the "Japanese Alps". Spend four days in Takayama, one of Denver's oldest Sister Cities. Dress in Kimono while shopping in Takayama's old town. Enjoy food at Kanazawa's Omi-Cho fish market and see the famed Kenrokuen gardens. Discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Shirakawa-go. Interact with the digital art of TeamLabs in Tokyo.

Arrive in Tokyo

Spend one night in Shinjuku Washington Hotel

Day 2

Day 2 image

Travel to Kanazawa

Take the shinkansen to Kanazawa, check in to Kanazawa New Grand Hotel Premium, explore Kenrokuen Garden. Enjoy a welcome dinner at a conveyor sushi restaurant.

Day 3

Explore Kanazawa

Breakfast at Omi-cho Fish Market, explore Kanazawa Castle Park, participate in a Japanese cooking class, make a pair of lacquered chopsticks.

Day 4

Shirakawa-go

Explore the UNESCO world heritage site of Shriakawa-go on our way to Takayama. Arrive in Takayama and check into the Takayama Green Hotel Orinkaku.

Day 5

Day 5 image

Takayama

Kimono experience and visit the Jinya, a historical government office and estate. Meet the Takayama Mayor and have dinner with the Denver Friendship Association.

Day 6

Day 6 image

Explore Takayama

Visit the Denver City Park in Takayama. Take a half day trip to the Shin Hotaka cable car and walk the mountain trails at the top. Visit the Yatai Kaikan museum.

Day 7

Explore Takayama

Explore the Miyagawa Morning Market. Tour a local sake brewery, lunch at a restaurant specializing in Hida beef. Meet craftsmen specializing in dyeing, woodworking, and laquerware.

Day 8

Travel to Tokyo

Travel from Takayama to Tokyo through the scenic mountains of Gifu prefecture. Check in to Shinjuku Washington Hotel. Explore the TeamLabs Borderless digital art exhibit.

Day 9

Tokyo

 Visit Sensoji Temple in Asakusa and the Tokyo Skytree.  Possibly take a day trip to Kamakura to see  the  Great Buddha at Kotoku-in, with a possible stop at the Cup Noodle factory and museum in Yokohama.

Day 10

Day 10 image

Tokyo

Explore street fashion at Takeshita dori. Have a group farewell dinner at Imahan, a famous sukiyaki restaurant.

Day 11

Day 11 image

Depart Tokyo for home
