To the Serengeti via the Ngorongoro Highlands

Today we make our way toward the legendary Serengeti, traveling through the cool, misty Ngorongoro Highlands. This beautiful region is known for its lush forests, rolling hills, and rich volcanic soil. Along the way, keep an eye out for wildlife. Elephants, buffalo, baboons, and even the elusive leopard are sometimes spotted in the highland forests.

As the landscape gradually changes, the forests give way to the vast open plains that make the Serengeti one of the most celebrated wildlife destinations on Earth. After arriving in the park, we head out on our first game drive through endless savannah dotted with iconic acacia trees. With a little luck, we may encounter lions lounging in the shade, towering giraffes browsing the trees, massive elephant herds, and thousands of zebras and wildebeest roaming the plains.

This is the Africa so many of us have dreamed about, and our Serengeti adventure is just beginning.

Every game drive is different, and that’s part of the excitement. We may find lions resting beneath acacia trees, elephants crossing the plains, cheetahs scanning the grasslands for prey, or leopards hidden among the branches. Large herds of zebras, wildebeest, gazelles, and buffalo are common sights, while countless bird species add even more color to the landscape.

For those who choose to participate, an optional sunrise hot air balloon safari offers a breathtaking perspective of the Serengeti as the sun rises over the plains. The experience concludes with a champagne celebration and a beautifully prepared bush breakfast before rejoining the group for the day’s safari.

This unique ecosystem is home to lions, elephants, buffalo, hippos, hyenas, flamingos, jackals, and one of the best places in Tanzania to spot the endangered black rhinoceros. Throughout the day, we’ll explore forests, open grasslands, wetlands, and shimmering lakes with our expert guides as we search for the incredible wildlife that calls the crater home.
