Tanzania Safari & Zanzibar — 3rd to 12th July 2027

Ten days through Tanzania's richest safari country and onto the white sand of Zanzibar — this is the second half of my Tanzania 2027 group trip, and it's fully bookable on its own, no mountain required.

We start in Arusha and travel through three of Tanzania's most iconic national parks — Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, and the Central Serengeti — chasing the Great Migration and hoping for all of the Big Five, staying in genuinely beautiful lodges and tented camps along the way.

Then, instead of the usual long drive back out, we take a chartered light-aircraft flight straight from the Serengeti to Zanzibar, trading dust for turquoise water in a couple of hours.

On Zanzibar, it's reef days and real rest: snorkelling with Mnemba Island's marine life on an ocean safari, free time to do absolutely nothing on the beach at Kendwa, and a final stop in Stone Town with an optional guided walking tour, a spice tour, and a Freddie Mercury House visit — on me. We close the trip together with a hosted farewell dinner at a Stone Town restaurant before everyone heads home.

This trip runs small — capped at 19 guests plus me — so it stays personal, well organised, and genuinely supported the whole way through.

New arrivals land at JRO (Kilimanjaro airport) and transfer to Tulia Boutique Hotel & Spa 4* hotel (90 minutes drive), Arusha — where you'll also meet anyone continuing on from the Kilimanjaro trip. Welcome meal (included) and time to recover after your flight.

Tarangire National Park: Depart Arusha early morning after breakfast and drive to Tarangire National Park (2-2.5 hours). Full game drive through Tarangire's baobab woodlands and elephant herds. The Tarangire River flows through the park, which constantly carries water, so that many animals migrate from dry regions during the annual dry season from July to October, resulting in the highest density of wildlife in Tanzania after the Ngorongoro Crater.

Tarangire is famed for its giant baobab trees, sweeping savannahs, and large elephant herds. This is also one of the best places to spot lions lounging in the grasslands!  We’ll arrive in time for lunch and spend the rest of the day on a game drive seeing elephant herds, zebra, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck, lesser kudu, African buffalo, giraffe, hippo, warthog, lion, cheetah, leopard, hyena and African wild dogs.

After the game drive, we will drive to our tented lodge on the edge of the park to check in and freshen up or take a dip in the pool. Happy hour gin and tonics included from 6-7 pm. Enjoy the infinity pool overlooking the elephants.

After breakfast overlooking elephant drinking by the pool, we drive 4 hours to Ngorongoro Crater, where we will go on a game drive.

We’ll descend 600 metres onto the crater floor for a safari in one of the most extraordinary settings in Africa. With over 25,000 animals, Ngorongoro offers an unparalleled density of wildlife. The number of zebras, buffaloes, wildebeests, antelopes and gazelles is particularly large here. They are hunted by lions, hyenas and leopards. There are also elephants in the crater and, unusually in this area, hippos. Between 10 and 15 endangered black rhinos remain. The great herd migration in the Serengeti also passes through the Ngorongoro Crater.

We will stop for our lunch during before our afternoon safari and then check into Embalakai Authentic Camps which is located within the national park.

Into the Central Serengeti: After breakfast we set off towards the Serengeti (approx. 3 hour). Besides being known for the great migration, the Serengeti is also home to over 3,000 Lions, 1,000 African leopards and the East African cheetah. It's one of the best places to observe prides in their natural environment. Approximately 70 large mammal and 500 bird species are found here - including the Big 5!

At the park we will stop for lunch, and then head off on a game drive to spot wildlife.

After the game drive, we'll will visit an authentic Maasai village where they will show you how they get medicine from trees and shrubs by boiling the leaves, stems, and roots of some trees. The Maasai are known for their high jumping which is also a way of attracting a bride. The higher the jumps, the more of an eligible bachelor a man is. You will have a chance to sing and dance with them. You will see how the women are creating their traditional jewelry. Both men and women wear colorful handmade beaded ornaments on their ears and necks. Depending on our arrival time, it might get dark by the end of our visit. After the Masai visit we will drive to our luxury tented camp in the heart of the bush. After checking in and freshening up, we'll meet for dinner together.

Full Day Central Serengeti: Morning and sunset game drives through prime predator country with time during the day to relax at the lodge. Optional sunrise hot air balloon safari with champagne breakfast available this morning ($575pp, not included, can be added on at check out or a later date).

Sunrise game drive and Fly Serengeti to Zanzibar: Wake up early for one final sunrise game drive in the Serengeti, come back to the hotel for breakfast and to check out. Catch our chartered light-aircraft flight direct from the Serengeti to Zanzibar (11 am departure, 1 pm arrival to hotel)- 23 kg luggage allowance in a soft bag only- no hard cases allowed. Transfer to Sunset Kendwa Hotel for 3 nights, spend the evening on a tradition dhow cruise before returning to the hotel for dinner.

Day 7 (9 July) — Mnemba Island Snorkelling & Ocean Safari: Morning pickup (8am) for a snorkelling trip to Mnemba Island and an ocean safari, equipment included on a private boat.

While we can’t guarantee it, there’s a HIGH chance (80%) that we’ll see dolphins!

We’ll get back to the hotel around 1pm where you’ll have free time to get your own lunch and have a relaxing afternoon.

Kendwa to Stone Town: Transfer to Stone Town at 9 am (1 hour). Guided walking tour (including Freddie Mercury House) and spice tour, you will have some free time after lunch to browse the shops, relax by the pool or the beach. Then a farewell dinner at a rooftop restaurant in Stone Town.
