Your guides, descendants of those who were present at the historic battle, will lead you to the very grounds where remarkable events unfolded, sharing tales of bravery and honour.
Stand within a Polynesian navigational compass used by our ancestors to navigate the vast Pacific Ocean.
To conclude this remarkable tour, visit a local marae and admire the breathtaking vistas of the Tauranga harbour from the nearby hills. Truly a captivating experience!
To begin our walk you are transported back in time to the arrival of our Māori ancestors to Aotearoa from our homeland, Hawaiiki.
We visit the site of an ancient pā (fortified village) which saw inter-tribal conflict which eventually became the final resting place of colonial soldiers from conflicts with our local tribes
A relationship was built between our tribal leaders and the missionaries. We call by The Elms to view the mission station. There's an opportunity to go back at a later time to take the tour of The Elms grounds
Taumatakahawai Pā(Māori fortified village) became a redoubt established by the colonial forces
During the 1860s the building was pressed into service as a mission hospital, caring for both Māori and Pākehā.
Join our local Māori storytellers to experience the beauty of Māori history and cultural stories. Be immersed in the culture of tangata whenua (local Māori people). Our experiences take you beyond the window of our culture to a journey of knowledge and understanding.
