May 23rd - 25th
This weekend retreat blends nature, community, and hands-on creativity, featuring a series of textile-based workshops ranging from screen printing and natural dyeing to block printing and sun dyeing.
Meals are centered around connection, with a standout four-course dinner by chef Amer, whose approach emphasizes seasonal ingredients and shared experiences, alongside more casual moments like a pizza party and campfire dinners.
Guests can also enjoy morning yoga, a curated bar program, and a lakeside sauna experience with SaunaGuus, creating a balance of activity and relaxation. With amenities like a hot tub, sauna—and a thoughtfully paced schedule of workshops, meals, and downtime—the retreat is designed as an immersive, community-driven weekend in nature.
The Workshops:
Screen Printing: Wear Your Heart on Your Sleeve
Block Printing: Text & Texture
Memorial day participants will choose 1 primary workshop, either screen printing or block printing. (We will be able to bounce around between activities throughout the weekend, but day 1 will be dedicated to learning one craft and exploring its possibilities.)
Participants will learn the basics of block or screen printing using prepared matrixes (carved blocks, burned screens.) This will also showcase some of the work the artists are busy with (as well as provide diverse examples of work that can be created through these two mediums.)
Morning 1 will be largely practicing-- the act and technique of printmaking. How ink interacts with the fabric. How much pressure is needed. What patterning and textural techniques can we discover? Experiment with color, text, texture and layers on t shirts, paper, fabric. This practice isn't precious. Collaborate and get some print reps in!
There will be the opportunity to carve your own block, or burn your own ideas/designs onto silk screens. So come with sketchbooks and journals to brainstorm, write, sketch and design.
We will layer, collage, collaborate to build up our garments. We ask that you bring clothing (or any paper, fabric, alternative flat surfaces) you'd like to experiment on/with.
Possibilities are infinite! Layering, mixed media, collage-like printmaking. Think about this project as a wearable diary, or an interpretation of the environment we're printing in. Explore ways of communication. Explore methods of printing nature.
Our friends over at SaunaGuus are bringing there mobile 20 person sauna and parking it by the pond for all of us to enjoy.
