Day 1: Pick up from your accommodation at about 8:30 AM and depart from the center at 9:00 AM. We cycle for about 2 and half hours to Ban Xang Hay Village, also known as Whisky Village. Here you visit the village, see the process of making lao lao, the country’s beloved rice whiskey and taste the fresh local delights. Why not pick up a couple of bottles for later!
We have a lunch break at the Manifa Elephant Camp restaurant – overlooking the Mekong river. Then we cycle down on dirt road to Pak Ou Caves called Tham Ting situated on the opposite bank of the Mekong.
We continue biking up along Nam Ou River passing villages and their farms. It takes about 2 hours to get our 1st day destination at Ban Houy Lo where we stay overnight.
Day 2: On the second day we trek through jungle to the hillside villages. In early morning we will take an easy walk for 2 hours and pass through medium slopes to a Hmong village, Ban Thamloun. Then we will climb up a hill for an hour through the jungle to a Khamu village Ban Mokchong where we will have a lunch break.
After lunch we will walk downhill for 2 hours to Ban Ladthahae, on the way you can see a wonderful view of mountain chains covered with tropical forests and meet the locals working in the farms. We will stay the second night at a hillside village.
Day 3: After breakfast we go to Lao Village by car about 20 minutes. From there we start kayak on the Nam Ou River. We enjoy a breathtaking view of the tranquil countryside and see a wonderful nature built limestone cliffs called Pha Aen on the way. 2 hours kayaking take us to the destination the confluence of the Nam Ou and Mekong Rivers, Pak Ou.
Upon arrival at Pak Ou, we visit the famous Pak Ou Caves : Two linked caves in the limestone cliff are crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by devoted pilgrims. Exploring the caves about 30 min, we start the second course of kayak on the Mekong River. We paddle down the Mekong for another 30 minutes until we ended our journey at Manifa Elephant Camp. There we enjoy a beautiful buffet style lunch at the restaurant – overlooking the Mekong River. We return to the city in the afternoon.
