Day Tour of Phuket including Big Budha

About 10 years ago a group of friends was walking through the forest in the Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata when they stumbled upon a place with stunning vistas of both sides of the island – Chalong Bay lay in one direction while on the other they looked down over Kata and the Andaman Sea. It would, they thought, make a perfect place for a viewpoint – something that could become as well known as Phuket’s favorite sunset viewpoint, at Laem Phromthep. As time went on, and as the friends discussed it again and again, the idea evolved. The place in the hills, they soon agreed, would be perfect not just as a viewpoint, but as the site for something much more ambitious and, to Buddhists at least, much more significant: a giant image of the Lord Buddha.

Green Elephant Sanctuary Park

You'll be picked up directly from our hotel at 7:00 am and you'll enjoy a ride through remote rolling hills past idyllic beaches directly into the jungle in north-west Phuket. After arriving at the “Green – Elephant Sanctuary Park” you will have the opportunity to feed the large elephants and young animals. We then continue to a short presentation in English of our vision, the park and the Asian elephant. After changing, you can rub the elephants and yourself with mud in the spa pool. It makes for the most beautiful souvenir photo taken by park photographers during the entire visit. Then you can wash the mud off the elephants and yourself in the freshwater pool before having fun with the elephants under the XXL adventure shower. After showering, you can enjoy a rich, authentic Thai buffet. And finally you can say your goodbyes to the elephants before we bring you back to your hotel.

Today you will visit Phuket's Old town and have some free time to roam around.

Unlike many Thai provincial capitals, Phuket Town fairly shines with personality and nowhere more so than its Old Town. In this historically rich part of town you will find shrines, temples (Buddhist and Chinese), ornate and beautifully preserved 'shophouses', quaint cafés, tiny printing shops, impromptu private and public museums and even a mini ex-red light district.

Phuket Old Town was built on riches reaped from Phuket's tin boom of last century, when the metal was an extremely valuable commodity. In this quarter of the town you will see grandiose Sino-colonial mansions, once occupied by Phuket's tin barons of 100 years' ago. Phuket Old Town is compact enough to stroll around in. The best time to do this is early in the morning or after the day has lost its heat. There are enough restaurants and cafés to provide you with refreshments so don't bother taking a picnic along!

There aren't too many cities in SouthEast Asia that come anywhere close to knowing how to party like Phuket and celebrating NYE in the streets or on the beach enjoying the fireworks is the way to do it.
