Choosing Philadelphia as the “hub” for this Revolutionary War Shortbreak allows guests to either enjoy a two day/ one night or three day / two night experience where guests can stay for the full duration or just for the two day itinerary.

Your Revolutionary Ware experience starts where independence was declared and debated in the city of Philadelphia. Explore Independence Hall, Congress Hall, and the Liberty Bell, then walk the cobbled lanes of Society Hill, where patriots like Thomas Paine and Benjamin Rush lived and wrote. After lunch, we will head to Historic Germantown, a neighborhood that witnessed one of the war’s earliest urban battles: the Battle of Germantown (1777). Visit Cliveden, the Chew family mansion that became a fortified British stronghold during the battle, and explore its exhibits on urban warfare and civilian life during wartime. Wrap up the day with a stop at Laurel Hill Cemetery, where Revolutionary figures such as Thomas McKean and members of the First City Troop are buried, offering a solemn and powerful ending to the day.

Today we head northwest to one of the most iconic sites of the American Revolution: Valley Forge National Historical Park. Walk the encampment grounds where Washington’s army survived a brutal winter in 1777–78. See reconstructed soldiers’ huts, the Grand Parade, and Washington’s original headquarters, and learn how discipline, determination, and drill saved the Revolution. From there, we travel to Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, one of the many 18th-century iron forges that provided cannons, ammunition, and tools for the Continental Army. Discover the untold story of how enslaved workers, free Black artisans, and German immigrant families kept the war effort alive with sweat and fire. After lunch in nearby Phoenixville, we visit Pottsgrove Manor, home of ironmaster John Potts, whose family helped fund and supply the revolutionary cause. Return to Philadelphia in the early evening.

Our 3rd day begins with a drive to Brandywine Battlefield Park, the site of the largest land battle of the Revolution, fought in 1777. Explore the landscape where Washington's forces tried to block the British advance on Philadelphia and visit Lafayette’s headquarters. Next, we head to nearby Paoli Battlefield, the site of a harrowing nighttime bayonet attack that earned the grim nickname “The Paoli Massacre.” This stop offers insight into the brutal realities of 18th-century warfare and the resilience of Patriot forces. After lunch, we continue north to the Ephrata Cloister, a pacifist religious community that was unexpectedly drawn into the Revolution when its buildings were converted into a field hospital for hundreds of wounded American soldiers after Brandywine. Discover how faith, medicine, and compassion played a critical but often overlooked role in the war effort. We return to Philadelphia by evening for a final toast at a colonial-era tavern—closing out your journey where liberty was born.
