The Ancestral Route

We departure from Coca at 09:00 am by car to “Taracoa” Lagoon for our first nature excursion. Here you will discover and learn about the flora and fauna of the Amazon, navigate the enchanted lagoon of “Taracoa” (Hormiga), and enjoy the spectacular landscape and sounds of the fauna that this lagoon offers.

Here it is possible to observe a variety of species of monkeys, turtles, all kinds of bird, butterflies, and much more wildlife including the possibilities of a sighting caiman as we walk along a raised path in a marshy area that connects to the great Rio Napo. For our afternoon activities, we will continue upstream about 25 minutes to the Amarun Yaya community to learn about the Kichwa culture and have lunch before returning to the hotel around 5:00 pm.

WOW, I have to start by saying Sarah, Marco and Omar were above outstanding!! Because of them, it's easy to overlook the few things on the trip that weren't favorable. We weren't expecting so much of our trip to be in the canoe...13, 14 hours is just too long, FOR US...although we saw so much beauty, it was just very uncomfortable. I paid extra for two of us to be able to go Peacock Bass fishing on the AquaRio, but no accomodations were made for that and I was quite disappointed. That has been a life long dream of my husband's and I thought I had arranged to give him that wonderful gift but it just didn't play out that way. However, Omar did TRY to make up for it and I appriciate his effort but it still wasn't the arrangement I thought I had set up and paid for. We had also looked forward to meeting the Indigenous Tribes but were told that that wasn't included in our tour even though it's right on out itenerary... DAY 4 Our boat back to Coca departs at 06:00 am. We’ll have a packed breakfast on the way. You’ll have the option of visiting the Shuar Cultural Center along the way where you can learn about the cosmovision, myths, and legends of one of the indigenous cultures of the Amazon. We’ll also have a chance to try typical gastronomy. The visit will last about 3-4 hours and will cost $20 per person. The Lodge itself was wonderful! Our hosts were WONDERFUL! The food, was wonderful and we really enjoyed ourselves. Overall, I would probably have given a 3 out of 5 stars for a rating except our hosts, Sarah, Marco and Omar were SO exceptional that they more than make up for the few disappointments and I gladly give 5 stars.

We had a great time on our 5 day Yasuni tour and were able to see many bird species, some monkeys and even a sloth, plus enjoy cultural experiences. We had an enthusiastic and competent guide and skilled boat driver. We were well looked after for food and our accommodation was comfortable. We shared the trip with 3 other Spanish speakers but our guide ensured we had English translations. We appreciated an airport pickup and drop off. The company was well organised. Many thanks to all.
