About this trip

An adventure through history, rum, and mountains
Relive the secret path of the ancient muleteers with MOBILITI EXPEDITIONS, who once traveled from the valleys of Azuay—like Tarqui, San Fernando, and Soldados—carrying sugarcane spirits along hidden trails through highland páramos and rugged mountains, all the way to Guayaquil, the bustling heart of the coast.

Explore these ancestral routes on horseback, enjoy a countryside lunch inspired by local cuisine, visit one of the country’s most renowned rum distilleries, take part in an exclusive tasting session, and unwind at the end of the day in natural thermal springs.

A one-of-a-kind experience that blends history, landscapes, and flavor.
Uncover the legend of Andean smuggling!

Piedra de Agua Thermal Spring & Spa: A gift for the body and the senses.

Located in the parish of Baños in Cuenca, Ecuador, Piedra de Agua is a unique thermal spa built upon natural hot springs, volcanic mud mines, and quartz deposits. Since 2008, this award-winning Ecuadorian wellness destination has specialized in health, relaxation, and therapeutic treatments using its own mineral-rich waters, muds, and steams—all drawn from natural underground sources.

Designed with a rustic-modern aesthetic using local travertine stone, Piedra de Agua offers a one-of-a-kind environment. Its facilities include thermal pools, volcanic mud therapy (red, blue, and gray), steam baths, herbal and floral rituals, flotation therapy, wine and ice baths, marble exfoliation, and even a crystal cube filled with mineral steam. All of this takes place inside magical limestone caves and underground tunnels.

Complementing the spa experience is a refined restaurant serving national and international specialties, with some ingredients sourced from their own organic garden. You’ll also find the Braulio Durán Geological Museum, which shares the volcanic and mineral origins behind this natural wonder.

Recognized internationally—including the 2022 award for Best Spa in North and South America—Piedra de Agua is possibly the only spa in the world to bring together such a complete range of thermal water, mud, and steam therapies in a single location.

A sanctuary where wellness meets nature.
