Let the Itinerary Tell the Story

The Mountain Retreat - Raw and Humble

The Ranch and Family - Rancho Ecológico El Refugio is a peaceful mountain sanctuary nestled in San Dionisio Canyon, midway between La Paz and Cabo San Lucas. This 350-year-old, family-run ranch, rooted in centuries-old vaquero traditions, invites you onto their ancestral lands and into the heart of Baja’s highlands. Surrounded by ancient forests, a slow-flowing stream, and the energy of the Tropic of Cancer, it’s a soulful space for reflection, healing, and connection to nature.

Accommodations - Stay in glamping-style lodgings designed to blend rustic charm with simple comforts. The glamping tents are stand-up and walk-in, cozy, peaceful, and immersed in the natural environment—offering the quiet stillness of mountain living with thoughtful, intentional touches.

Plant-Based Cuisine and Fresh Beverages - Nourishing, plant-based meals are prepared daily using fresh ingredients from the ranch’s organic gardens. Meals are shared family-style, connecting guests to the land, its rhythms, and each other. Herbal teas and fresh juices are always available, and most dietary needs can be accommodated.

Planned Activities - Daily yoga by the río, followed by guided hikes through canyon trails, visits to ancient cave paintings, and hands-on traditional Mexican vegan cooking classes. Explore local medicinal plants and their ancestral healing uses, with time each day for rest and reconnection.

Evenings invite quiet reflection beneath Baja’s brilliant stars—including front-row views of the Leonid meteor shower, an awe-inspiring celestial event visible from this remote mountain setting. One special night features an Ecstatic Dance Ceremony led by Amy, blending movement, music, and intention to help you release, express, and connect more deeply with yourself and the natural world.
