About your trip

How about treating yourself to an overnight Theater Trip to the Queen City of Charlotte for the touring Broadway production of Great Gatsby, "Old Sport"? This is a limited date show and the tickets were difficult to secure but I did it "Old Sport"! Can you guess how many times Jay Gatsby says "Old Sport" during the musical? As a reminder, THE GREAT GATSBY is a “Broadway extravaganza that explodes with life and energy” (Entertainment Weekly). Based on the classic American novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the Tony Award®-winning new musical is an unforgettable journey of love, wealth and tragedy that brings the Roaring Twenties to life on stage.

We have excellent seats in the Orchestra Front Left for the show in Charlotte's Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center located just across the street from our hotel, The Charlotte Marriott City Center. We arrive at the hotel and check-in at 4pm so you have time to "gussy up" for the show if you like and enjoy an early dinner prior to show time at 7:30pm. Dining options include the "Stoke Charlotte" located in our hotel as well as numerous other options within walking distance of our hotel and the theater.

The following day, you can enjoy breakfast with Coco and the Director. This is a strange name for the Coffee Shop, located in our hotel, don't you think? Or, you might enjoy a short walk to Amelie's French Bakery. This is a whimsical Parisian style bakery just a quick macaron's throw from the hotel. After fortifying yourself for the morning, we are treated to a guided tour at North Carolina's first Art Museum, The Mint of the traveling exhibit Caravaggio Revolution. This is the first exhibition in North Carolina in a century to shine a light on how Caravaggio's radical realism transformed not only painting, but the very language of modern film, photography and popular culture. The collection features not only work by the artist himself but is surrounded by 30 paintings by leading Baroque masters.

Finally, before departing Charlotte, we enjoy lunch and a time to practice the "art of shopping" at Southpark. This is the most exclusive shopping destination in the Carolinas, home to over 175 specialty retailers. Learn all about Southpark at this link, https://www.simon.com/mall/southpark

About your organizer

P
Patty
I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!
