About this trip

This overnight trip to Charlotte is packed with experiences! The star attraction is the Broadway production of The Great Gatsby. The show staged across the street from our hotel at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, does more than just dazzle! It stays with you long after leaving the theater. This F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tony award-winning musical is an unforgettable journey of love, wealth and tragedy in the era of the Roaring Twenties. We have excellent seats in the Orchestra Front Left. We arrive at the Marriott City Center early enough for plentiful pre-show dining options in and around the hotel.

.

Day Two, offers time for a morning visit to Uptown's famous, Amelie's French Bakery. This is a whimsical Parisian style bakery just a quick macaron's throw from the hotel. After fortifying yourself, you can choose between two special Museum exhibits. For the art lover, you will be treated to a guided tour at North Carolina's first Art Museum, The Mint of the traveling exhibit Caravaggio Revolution. This is the first exhibition in North Carolina in a century to shine a light on how Caravaggio's radical realism transformed not only painting, but the very language of modern film, photography and popular culture. The collection features not only work by the artist himself but is surrounded by 30 paintings by leading Baroque masters. If history is more to your liking, choose the Charlotte Museum of History for the Voices of Independence Experience. This celebrates the year of America 250 with an interactive experience where you meet characters who changed history during the American Revolution. North Carolina's legendary role in the famous battle of King's Mountain is a feature (fans of the Outlander series will really appreciate this!).

Finally, before departing Charlotte, we enjoy lunch and shopping at Southpark. This is the most exclusive shopping destination in the Carolinas, home to over 175 specialty retailers. Learn all about Southpark at this link, https://www.simon.com/mall/southpark

About your organizer

P
Patty
I love to travel so in my partially retired life I decided to adapt my passion for travel along with 25 years of experience in Travel & Tourism to create Trips by Patty. I received a BA in American History from UNC-Chapel Hill. Not knowing what I was going to do with that degree, I started working as a desk clerk at a hotel in Raleigh. I enjoyed the hotel business and the career path began. Hotel operations and sales, Convention Center operations and marketing, destination marketing with a Convention Visitors Bureau and even a stint as a tour guide. What happened to the history degree? Well, many times when I am escorting my trips I share the history of the destinations we visit. It's a great feeling to take your career skills and adapt them to your own small business. I love what I do and hope you'll join me on a trip one day!
