IMPORTANT MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION
- Trip Physical Level: 4
- If you are new to 1000 Treks, you will need to have a quick 15 minute zoom call with your group leader before we confirm your participation. We do that, so you can meet your group leader "in person", and also to make sure we are a good fit. This is something we added recently, and it's beneficial to everyone. You don't want to travel with a group that does not fit your personality, right? On that brief, call, we will put that question to rest, and you will feel good about the group you are travelling with.
- All trips are governed by our comprehensive contract. You should familiarize yourself with it prior to signing up for any of our trips. You can access it by clicking HERE or visiting https://www.1000treks.com/contract/. A link to the contract can also be found at the bottom of all our web pages under CONTRACT.
- Travel insurance is required. You will need to provide a copy of your insurance policy to 1000 Leagues Travel at the latest seven (7) days after the final payment for the Trip.
- Some of the countries we are visiting impose taxes such as VAT, hotel taxes, city taxes, etc. Those taxes need to be paid on-the-spot. They are usually very small, but will have to be paid by you, so keep that in mind.
- Because of the adventurous nature of our trips, from time to time, we need to make changes to the itinerary, schedule, accommodations, amenities, and mode of transportation. Those changes are rare, but do happen. Whenever they happen, we will do our best to maintain the integrity of the trip.
- VISAS:
- South Africa does not require a visa for American citizens for a less than 90 days stay. If you are not an American citizen, you might need a visa. Here is the visa page at the South African Embassy:
- Zimbabwe and Zambia: American citizens need a visa but it can be obtained at the time we are crossing the border. A Kaza visa that is valid for multiple entries between Zimbabwe and Zambia will cost 50.00 and all you need is a U.S. passport valid for at least 6 months. If you are not an American citizen, please visit the Zimbabwe Embassy Website, and the Zambia Embassy Website to see if you need to apply for a visa in advance. this page to see if you need to apply in advance for Zimbabwe and this page to see if you need to apply in advance for Zambia.
- For Rwanda and Uganda, everyone needs to apply in advance. It's a simple process but you should get on it ASAP to avoid problems. We suggest you get the East Africa Tourist Visa that is good for both countries (plus Kenya, although that's not in our itinerary). You can apply it for it HERE or you can go through the Ugandan or Rwandan embassy. Embassies can be very slow and unhelpful, so that's why it might be a good idea to use a third party that will charge you a small fee but will do all the leg work for you.
