About this trip

Every pilgrimage begins with a single step, but as we continue along the Camino, we discover that the journey is about so much more than the miles beneath our feet.

Join us on The Meseta Camino, a journey along the legendary Camino Francés from the historic city of Burgos to León. Here, the landscape opens into vast plains, golden fields, and seemingly endless horizons. We will walk through quiet villages, past ancient churches, and along the peaceful paths of the Meseta, where the simplicity of the landscape invites us to turn inward.

This is often called the Mental Camino, a place where patience, perseverance, and trust become our companions. The miles may feel long, and the path may seem endless at times, but in the quiet rhythm of walking, we begin to discover the strength within us. With fewer distractions, we have space to reflect, release our expectations, and listen for the gentle presence of God.

The Meseta reminds us that not every day needs to be extraordinary to be meaningful. Sometimes, the greatest lessons come when we take one step at a time and trust that we are being led exactly where we need to be.

This is more than a walk across the plains of Spain—it is an invitation to discover what unfolds within you when you slow down, keep walking, and make room for God.

Image 0

Welcome to Burgos, a beautiful historic city and an important stop along the Camino Francés.

Today will look a little different for each pilgrim.

Some will be arriving to begin their Camino journey, while others may be enjoying a well-deserved day of rest after walking the first section from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port.

Whether you are joining us for the first time or continuing your journey with familiar faces, this is an opportunity to settle in, reconnect, and prepare for the miles ahead.

If you have time and energy, explore the charming streets of Burgos or visit its magnificent Gothic cathedral, one of Spain's most treasured landmarks. You may prefer to enjoy a leisurely meal, rest your feet, or simply take a quiet moment to reflect on the journey so far.

Tomorrow, we leave the city behind and step into the wide-open landscapes of the Meseta. This next section of the Camino invites us to slow down, embrace the quiet, and discover the lessons that can unfold when we take life one step at a time.

Welcome to The Meseta Camino. May this next chapter bring new friendships, unexpected blessings, and moments of grace along the Way.

Our Camino begins with a walk out of Burgos and into the expansive countryside of the Meseta. As the city fades behind us, the landscape opens into golden fields, rolling farmland, and long paths stretching toward the horizon. The simplicity of the scenery invites us to slow down and find our rhythm. The Meseta may appear quiet and unassuming, but it has a way of teaching us to be present with each step. Today, we begin practicing patience and letting go of the need to see what lies far ahead.

Day 3

Hornillos del Camino to Castrojeriz ... 21 km, 13 miles
Image 0

Today, we continue through the open countryside, following paths that wind between fields and small villages. The landscape may seem endless at times, but there is beauty in its simplicity. As we walk, we are reminded that we do not have to rush toward the next destination to appreciate where we are. Castrojeriz welcomes us with its historic character and long connection to the Camino. Take time to explore the village, rest your feet, and reflect on the lessons that are beginning to unfold along the Way.

Day 4

Castrojeriz to Itero de la Vega ... 13 km, 8 miles
Image 0

A shorter walking day gives us the opportunity to take our time and appreciate the small details along the Camino.

Leaving Castrojeriz, we approach one of the more memorable climbs of the Meseta, followed by open countryside and peaceful paths. The landscape reminds us that even a short day can hold its own challenges and rewards. We arrive in Itero de la Vega with time to rest, reflect, and enjoy the slower pace. Sometimes, the Camino teaches us that we do not need to do more to receive more from the journey.

Day 5

Itero de la Vega to Frómista ... 13km, 8 miles
Image 0

Today, we continue across the broad plains of Castile, passing through quiet villages and farmland.

The rhythm of walking may begin to feel familiar now: one foot in front of the other, one moment at a time. Our destination is Frómista, home to the beautiful Church of San Martín, a remarkable example of Romanesque architecture.

Take time to appreciate its history and the generations of pilgrims who have passed this way before us. As we pause here, consider how the Camino is shaping not only our steps, but also the way we see the world around us.

Day 6

Frómista to Carrión de los Condes ... 20km, 12 miles
Image 0

The Meseta stretches before us once again, with long, level paths through open farmland and wide skies overhead. This is a day to settle into the steady rhythm of the Camino and allow the mind to wander. Long stretches of walking can bring unexpected thoughts, questions, memories, and moments of peace. We may discover that silence is not empty at all, but full of opportunities to listen.

In Carrión de los Condes, we can rest and explore a town with a rich religious and pilgrimage heritage, grateful for the miles we have traveled.

Day 7

Carrión de los Condes to Calzadilla de la Cueza ... 18km, 11 miles
Image 0

Today brings us to one of the quieter stretches of the Meseta, where long paths and open landscapes invite us to turn inward. With fewer distractions, we may become more aware of our thoughts and emotions.

Some moments may feel peaceful; others may test our patience. Both are part of the journey. As we walk, we are reminded that perseverance does not mean having everything figured out. Sometimes, it simply means continuing forward with an open heart and trusting God with the next step.

Monday, May 24, 2027

Day 8

Calzadilla de la Cueza to Moratinos ... 23km, 14 miles
Image 0

A longer day awaits us as we continue across the broad, open plains of the Meseta. The miles may feel demanding, and the landscape may seem to stretch on without end. Yet this is where the Camino offers some of its most meaningful lessons.

We learn to listen to our bodies, take breaks when needed, encourage one another, and focus on the path directly in front of us. We do not have to conquer the entire distance all at once; we only need to keep moving, one step at a time.

Tonight, we can rest with gratitude for the strength that carried us through.

Tuesday, May 25, 2027

Day 9

Moratinos to Sahagún ... 12km, 7 miles
Image 0

Today offers a shorter walk and a little more breathing room in our journey. We continue through the quiet countryside toward Sahagún, a town known for its important role in the history of the Camino and its beautiful examples of Mudéjar architecture. This marks the halfway point along the Camino.

With fewer miles to cover, there may be time to explore, enjoy a leisurely meal, or simply rest. The Camino reminds us that pilgrimage is not a race.

There is grace in slowing down, allowing ourselves to be present, and receiving the gifts each day brings.

Wednesday, May 26, 2027

Day 10

Sahagún to El Burgo Ranero ... 18km, 11 miles
Image 0

Leaving Sahagún, we continue west through the familiar landscapes of the Meseta. The paths lead us through open fields and quiet stretches of countryside, where the steady rhythm of walking can become almost meditative.

By now, we may be noticing changes in ourselves—greater patience, a deeper appreciation for simple moments, or a willingness to let go of expectations.

We arrive in El Burgo Ranero with another day's journey behind us and an opportunity to reflect on what the Camino is teaching us about trust, resilience, and the beauty of taking life one step at a time.

Thursday, May 27, 2027

Day 11

El Burgo Ranero to Mansilla de las Mulas ... 20km, 12 miles
Image 0

Today, we continue toward Mansilla de las Mulas, following the paths that carry us steadily closer to León. The Meseta's open landscape continues to invite quiet reflection, even as we begin to sense the approaching change from countryside to city.

After days of walking, we may recognize that perseverance is not simply about physical strength; it is also about learning to meet each day with patience and an open heart. Take time to notice how far you have come, not only in miles, but in the small ways your perspective may have changed along the Way.

Friday, May 28, 2027

Day 12

Mansilla de las Mulas to León ... 20km, 12 miles
Image 0

Today, we make our way into León, an extraordinary city filled with history, culture, and pilgrimage tradition. As we leave the quieter countryside behind, the landscape gradually leads us toward the energy of the city. Our arrival marks an important milestone in the Camino Francés. We have crossed the vast plains of the Meseta, faced the long miles, and learned to keep going even when the path felt endless.

Take time to celebrate what you have accomplished and explore León's magnificent cathedral, historic streets, and welcoming cafés. The Meseta may be behind us, but the lessons it has offered can continue to walk with us.

Saturday, May 29, 2027

Day 13

León — Rest Day, Arrival Day, or Departure
Image 0

Today offers flexibility for every pilgrim. Some will be preparing to return home, others may be arriving to join the next section, and those continuing toward Santiago can enjoy a well-deserved day of rest in León.

Take time to visit the magnificent León Cathedral with its breathtaking stained-glass windows, explore the historic Basilica of San Isidoro, or wander through the city's lively streets and enjoy a meal at a local café. You may also choose to rest your feet, reflect on the journey so far, and prepare for the next stage of your Camino.

The Meseta often asks us to be patient, to persevere, and to trust the path even when we cannot see the destination. As we pause here in León, may we carry those lessons forward. The Camino continues, and with each new step comes another opportunity to discover what God may be unfolding within us.

Buen Camino!
