Visit Preservation Hall, established in 1961, a historic musical venue and home of New Orleans Jazz. The band plays (5) 1 hour long sets every night in front of visitors. This is truly a local and cultural experience.

Morning -  September 20, 2019

Visit the Whitney Plantation, the only plantation museum in Louisiana with a focus on slavery, outside of NOLA.  Through museum exhibits, memorial artwork and restored buildings and hundreds of first-person slave narratives, visitors to Whitney will gain a unique perspective on the lives of Louisiana's enslaved people. 

Visit the Laura Plantation exploring the compelling history of The Duparc Sugar Plantation. Guillaume Duparc's sugar farming complex was originally called l'Habitation Duparc, then years later, renamed the Laura Plantation  named after it's owner, Laura Locoul, who lived to almost 100 years old!

Visit the only Haitian Restaurant in the New Orleans area at the St Roch Market with chef Charly Pierre.  Chef Charly is constantly creating and adding to the colorful picture of New Orleans while focusing on his history and the people of New Orleans who helped him become who he is today. 

Evening -  September 20, 2019

Studio BE is a 35,000 sq ft warehouse in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans, LA showcasing the work of local artist Brandon Odums. Here you'll see murals and paintings of black culture. The floor to ceiling portraits are amazing to see in person. Brandon aka BMike has managed to capture the black experience like no other!

Enjoy a hands on cooking experience of New Orleans dishes such as Jambalaya, Chicken etouffee, catfish, etc. Attendees will enjoy preparing two entrees and a dessert. This awesome cooking class will not only speak to the history of the dishes you'll be preparing, but you'll also have some amazing recipes to take home and try.

The New Orleans Museum of Art is the oldest fine arts museum in the city of New Orleans.  Today, the museum hosts an impressive permanent collection of almost 40,000 objects. The collection, noted for its extraordinary strengths in French and American art, photography, glass, and African and Japanese works, continues to expand and grow, making NOMA one of the top art museums in the South. 

The adjacent New Orleans Museum of Art is spectacular, but for a couple of free hours of talking and strolling, you can’t beat the weird and wonderful installations at the Sydney and Wanda Besthoff Sculpture Garden -- a gorgeous outdoor space in City Park.

Enjoy a guided tour of the French Quarter learning about the arrival of the first enslaved West Africans in New Orleans. 

Among the highlights of this tour:

- Life as a slave under the French Code Noir(Black Code)

- The historic relationship between Africans and Native Americans in Louisiana

- Sites where enslaved Africans were sold at auction

- Congo Square, the birthplace of jazz, where slaves danced, played music, and held a market on Sundays

- The impact of the émigrés from Haiti and the growth of the free black population in New Orleans

- We’ll follow the trail of a diverse group of characters that include coffee seller Rose Nicaud, runaway slave Juan St. Malo, military drummer Jordan Noble, free black businessman and philanthropist Thomy Lafon, Sister Henriette Delille of the Sisters of the Holy Family, voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, and many others.
