About this trip

The Retreat is an opportunity to unplug, move your body, rest your mind, and reconnect with yourself at the core of who you are through vinyasa yoga, meditation, relaxation, and shared experiences with others who are doing the same.

In our four full days together, everything we do will be centered around these four themes: MAKE SPACE, CREATE CONNECTION, FIND SOFTNESS, GROW ROOTS. The goal? Leave for home with renewed confidence, refocused energy, and newfound clarity.

I have traveled all over — from Iceland to Morocco, Costa Rica to Greece, Colombia to California — and what I've learned is that Tulum is the place where I feel the most peace, the most joy, and the most connected — more than anywhere else, and I can't wait to share this magical, healing place with you.

Through my travel experience, I've also learned how to balance yoga, education, cultural immersion, fitness and relaxation to create a week that not just leaves you feeling reconnected with yourself but also with new likeminded friends.

You will watch the sun rise on morning beach walks, practice a strong power vinyasa flow each morning overlooking the jungle, enjoy fresh beachside meals, push your own boundaries in inversions and arm balancing workshops, taste the fresh ingredients of Quintana Roo in an authentic cooking class, learn to dance the salsa, and so much more.

We'll mix an immersion with the physical practice of yoga with all the right vacation vibes so you feel like you've recharged but also deepened your practicing and understanding of the asanas and your body. All yoga and group activities are optional, so you can curate the retreat that works for you.

Accomodations at Amansala Resort

Amansala is an all-inclusive resort and retreat center located steps from the ocean with four yoga shalas, a pool (rare in Tulum!), a dining room overlooking the water, a spa and plenty of loungers for enjoying the Mexican sunshine. The resort has an eco-chic vibe that comes with many Trip Advisor Traveler’s Choice and Certification of Excellence awards, as well as many great customer reviews.

Choose the room type and situation that works for you. You can choose to reserve a private room or selected a shared room option, perfect for a solo traveler looking to share a room with a soon-to-be new friend, for a couple, for friends, or whoever else you may want to stay with. Just let us know in your registration questionnaire who you want your roommate(s) to be if you have someone in mind.

If you don’t have a buddy traveling with you, don’t worry. This retreat is designed for solo travelers to make new friends. As long as you’re comfortable sharing a room with another retreater of the same gender, feel free to book a shared room.

Please remember that in Tulum, resorts like Amansala have a more rustic vibe and aren’t like big-box chain hotels in the United States. The amenities at Amansala are charming and have so much character, we hope you’ll feel right at home.

I am a 200-hour certified vinyasa yoga teacher based in Pittsburgh, PA. I have taught at the Solstice in Times Square in both 2016 and 2017, lead #AerieREAL pop up classes around the country, created community in weekly classes since 2012, assisted teacher trainings, and lead a variety of workshops. My teaching is molded to mimic my practice. I focus on upbeat flows, long sequences that challenge patience, breath and attention, and heart opening variations that allow us to soften in all the places we tend to tighten — our joints, jaws, shoulders and our hearts. I often share the importance of facing vulnerability and honesty, both with others and with ourselves. Because when we can break down the walls we put up, stop telling ourselves stories to protect our truest feelings, and become truth seekers within and with those we care about, amazing things can happen. Thank you, Catherine, for an amazing experience in Tulum. Your instruction style (and playlist) hit all the right notes even for a novice yoga practitioner such as myself. In short, I love your style! I felt supported in going at my own pace, the variety was incredible, and the group was just great. I also loved the off-site Cenote experience and the temazcal (sweat lodge). The food was fantastic and the sea and sun were just what I needed to hit reset. Thanks again!
This was my second retreat with Catherine and it was just as wonderful as the first one! Catherine does a great job of customizing the experience based on what the group wants. It was just the right mix of yoga, beach, relaxing, activities, sun and fun! I highly recommend it.
I had such an amazing experience on this retreat. Each day started with a quiet walk on the beach, followed by great coffee, tons of fruit and vegan yogurt. Then off for a couple hours of yoga, meditation and journalling. More fresh food followed after yoga class and then the afternoons were free to relax and recharge. Swimming in the sea, getting a spa treatment, or just reading a book. Later on, we had another delicious dinner. The food at Amansala was excellent. Highlights of the trip were obviously the yoga sessions every morning with Catherine (she's the best), a Reiki session recommended by Catherine at Maya Tulum with Chandree, my friend Paulette saving a baby sea turtle on our last morning in Tulum, the mermaid experience with Fatima at a cenote and meeting and spending time with all the other like minded friends on the retreat. What's great about this retreat is that everything is optional. Do as much or as little yoga as you like. Opportunities to explore Tulum on your own time and yet do some activities as a group as well. Although it was the rainy season in Tulum, there wasn't much rain. We saw lots of different, cool cloud formations, double rainbows and a full moon. It all made for a wonderful, much needed vacation and I'm so happy I went. I hope to make it an annual trip.
The week I spent with Catherine in Mexico was transformative. She thoughtfully mapped out each day with an intentional theme for purpose and growth. She took time to workshop poses and inversions to deepen our understanding of the yoga practice. She provided an atmosphere of learning, relaxation and empowerment. We stayed in paradise, and woke up every morning to unbelievably serene surroundings of nature. I left truly feeling like I was fully connected and balanced in mind, body and spirit. She inspired me to go further than I've ever gone before in my yoga practice, and instilled in me a desire to keep the themes and lessons of this retreat alive in my everyday life. This is truly one of the best things I've ever done for myself, and I'm eternally grateful to Catherine.
What an amazing experience from start to finish. I was shocked that this was Catherine's first time leading a retreat, because it was well organized, the flow/schedule was great, the group was cohesive, and it had a relaxed vibe. The perfect balance of scheduled activities and free time.
