THE SIX SENSES

A Ritual Retreat for Restoration, Presence & Sensory Awakening

January 22-25, 2027 • Commune Topanga • Topanga Canyon, California

What if the senses were more than ways of experiencing the world?

What if they were pathways home?

Across cultures and throughout history, breath, scent, sound, touch, taste, and sight have been woven into ceremony, healing traditions, and rites of passage—not simply to heighten perception, but to restore presence, awaken intuition, and deepen our relationship with ourselves and the living world.

Join Dr. Sarah Anne Rothman and Renée Loux for four days in the sanctuary of Commune Topanga, where ritual traditions meet contemporary understandings of nervous system regulation, sensory experience, and embodied wellbeing.

Through immersive practices, botanical rituals, nourishing meals, movement, music, meditation, and meaningful community, you'll be invited to slow down, reconnect, and remember the innate intelligence that already lives within you.

This is more than a retreat.

It is an invitation to return to yourself through the wisdom of your senses.

The Place- Commune Topanga

The landscape itself is a participant.

Hidden at the end of a winding canyon road in the Santa Monica Mountains, Commune Topanga offers ten secluded acres of oak groves, gardens, open skies, and meandering paths. Though only minutes from Los Angeles, it feels worlds away.

Every path, practice space, overlook, and gathering place has been intentionally created to support what this retreat invites: a return to connection—with nature, with community, and with yourself.

Relax in the outdoor hydrotherapy sanctuary featuring a cedar sauna, cold plunge, jacuzzi, resistance pool, outdoor showers, and quiet places for reflection.

Meals are lovingly prepared from fresh, local, organic ingredients, with menus designed by Chef Renée Loux and prepared by Commune's resident chef, Ali Lafayette.

Our Philosophy

The senses are pathways of nourishment and knowing.

Six pathways. One return—to presence.

We believe the senses are more than ways of experiencing the world. When engaged with intention through ritual and immersive practice, they become living gateways that restore our relationship with ourselves, one another, and the natural world.

At the heart of this retreat is The Six Senses Framework—our immersive approach to restoration through sensory experience, ceremony, and intentional practice.

Together, these six pathways create an integrated experience that nourishes body, mind, spirit, and nervous system.

Explore the Six Pathways

Breath → Presence The rhythm that anchors awareness, regulates the nervous system, and reconnects us with the present moment. Daily breathwork cultivates vitality, resilience, and inner stillness.

Scent → Intuition               The oldest language of memory, emotion, and intuition. Through rare aromatic tree resins and botanicals, scent becomes a direct pathway into presence, reverence, and the subtle intelligence of the natural world.

Sound → Expression           Voice, vibration, music, and silence become tools for authentic expression, emotional release, joyful connection, and collective resonance.

Sight → Insight         The practice of slowing down enough to truly see—nature, beauty, ourselves, and one another with renewed clarity. Cultivating inner sight awakens the insight and intuitive awareness that emerge when we begin to see beyond appearance and into essence.

Taste → Nourishment         Receiving food as ritual. Every meal becomes an invitation to cultivate gratitude, vitality, pleasure, and presence through deeply nourishing ingredients prepared with intention.

Touch → Connection           Through movement, hydrotherapy, botanical preparations, and restorative practices, we reconnect with the wisdom of the body and the healing power of touch.

The Experience

Over four days, every offering is intentionally woven into a ceremonial arc. Rather than a collection of individual workshops, each experience builds upon the next, gently guiding you toward greater restoration, clarity, and integration.

Throughout the weekend you'll experience:

  • Daily breathwork and meditation

  • Morning yoga with Schuyler Grant

  • Sensory rituals featuring rare aromatic tree resins and botanicals

  • Botanical formulation workshops

  • Vocal activation and Community Song Circle with Shylah Ray Sunshine

  • Immersive Sound Experiences

  • Dream Tea and Botanical Elixirs

  • Organic, locally sourced seasonal meals designed by Chef Renée Loux, lovingly prepared by in-house Commune chef Ali Lafayette

  • Hydrotherapy rituals including cedar sauna, cold plunge, jacuzzi, resistance pool, and outdoor showers

  • Hiking, reflection, spacious rest, and time for integration

Every experience is thoughtfully woven into a larger ceremonial journey—awakening the senses, softening the nervous system, and deepening your relationship with yourself, nature, and community.

Is this Retreat For You?

This retreat is for anyone longing to slow down.

For those moving through transition, seeking renewal, or longing to reconnect with themselves through ritual, nature, and the wisdom of the senses.

Whether you are a wellness practitioner, creative, caregiver, seeker, or simply someone craving deeper presence, you are welcome here.

No previous experience is necessary.

Simply come as you are.

An Invitation …

There is a quiet intelligence within each of us that cannot be hurried.

It reveals itself through breath.

Through beauty.

Through the scent of trees.

Through nourishing food.

Through music.

Through stillness.

Through one another.

We believe the senses are pathways of nourishment and knowing.

May these six pathways continue to guide you—long after the retreat has ended—back to presence, to wonder, and to the profound belonging that has always been within you.

We would be honored to welcome you.

Me ke aloha nui,

Sarah and Renée
