About this trip

the journey to Play is a four-day wonder retreat for women that invites you to reconnect with the little girl within you and discover that play isn't something we outgrow—it's a way of seeing, a way of trusting, and a way of moving through the world. Our journey culminates at the Umhlanga (Reed Dance), one of Africa's most moving celebrations of young womanhood. As thousands of girls dance together in community and tradition, we witness more than a cultural ceremony. We witness a reflection - not who we should have been, but of who we have always been.

Wander Activity

Writing at the art of Creation is not treated as a separate activity, but as a natural extension of making. Each writing session is intentionally curated to mirror the day’s creation practice—whether kneading bread, blending tea, shaping beads, or sewing—allowing the hands to inform the page.

Wander Excursion

The Umhlanga (Reed Dance) is one of Africa's most extraordinary cultural celebrations, where thousands of young women from across the Kingdom of Eswatini gather each year in a vibrant expression of heritage, community, and tradition. Through song, dance, and ceremony, they honor the Queen Mother while celebrating the beauty, dignity, and strength of young womanhood. More than a festival, Umhlanga is a living tradition that connects generations and preserves the cultural identity of the Eswatini people.

Create alongside local artisans and remember what it feels like to make something simply for the joy of making it—not to impress, but to explore. Each layer becomes a reminder that life, like art, is most beautiful when we leave room for surprise.
