Arrival in Bishkek

Day 1: Welcome to Bishkek!
Arrival – Settle In – Sightseeing – Essentials

Today marks the beginning of our unforgettable journey through the mountainous heart of Central Asia.

Upon arrival in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan’s charming capital, a member of our local team will warmly welcome you at the airport and arrange your transfer to the hotel. Take this time to relax, settle in, and freshen up after your travels.

If time allows, we’ll head out for a light exploration of the city — from its tree-lined boulevards and Soviet-era architecture to its vibrant local culture. We’ll also visit the main mosque and make a few essential stops, including:
📱 Purchasing local SIM cards
💱 Exchanging money
🛒 Visiting a supermarket for any last-minute items

We’ll end the day with a welcome dinner at a local restaurant where we’ll share our intentions for the trip, get to know each other, and soak in the excitement for the adventure ahead.

Bishkek - Kyzat

Journey to Kochkor & Kyzart – A Glimpse into Nomadic Life

After breakfast, we’ll begin our scenic drive toward the village of Kochkor, located in the Naryn region, not far from the Chinese border. Once a key stop along the legendary Great Silk Road, Kochkor holds deep historical roots and offers a true window into the region’s nomadic heritage.

We’ll enjoy a homemade traditional lunch at a local family’s home, offering a taste of warm Kyrgyz hospitality.

Our journey then continues to the peaceful village of Kyzart, nestled at the base of the beautiful Son Kul Lake. Here, we’ll settle into a charming guesthouse for the night, surrounded by stunning natural landscapes and the tranquil rhythm of rural life.

Accommodation: Local Guesthouse in Kyzart Village

Day 3 - December 17th

Day 3 - December 17th image

Kyzart - Son Kul

Following breakfast, our guide will introduce us to our next mode of travel: horses! Once we’ve familiarised ourselves with our gentle companions, we’ll begin a 4–5 hour horseback journey through snow-covered trails, ascending the scenic Almak-Ashuu Pass.

This won’t be an easy ride — winter here is real and raw, with temperatures likely well below freezing. But as we ride through the snow-dusted landscapes, you’ll witness the untouched beauty of Kyrgyzstan’s highlands in a way few ever do. It will be challenging, but incredibly rewarding.

Our destination is Son Kul Lake – Kyrgyzstan’s second-largest freshwater lake, beautifully frozen during this time of year and surrounded by towering, snow-capped peaks.

Upon arrival, we’ll settle into a traditional yurt camp, where a warm, late lunch will be served. You’ll have time afterward to soak in the silence, stillness, and rugged magic of this remote, wintry wonder — a true taste of nomadic life in its rawest form.

Accommodation: Yurt Camp (No shower, NO WIFI, NO 4G)

Day 4 - 18th December

Son Kul - Kyzart - Naryn

After breakfast, we’ll ride back to Kyzart on horseback, retracing the snowy trails we journeyed through. The return ride will be cold and physically demanding, but offers another chance to soak in the winter beauty of the landscape — a true test of resilience and adventure.

Once we arrive in Kyzart, we’ll warm up and unwind at the guesthouse, where we’ll share time with the horseman’s family, experiencing their hospitality and simple way of life.

From there, we’ll switch to our vehicle and begin the drive to Naryn, a city nestled along the banks of the Naryn River. Sitting on the ancient Silk Road, it still plays a vital role in connecting Kyrgyzstan and China.

We’ll check into a cozy guesthouse in Naryn, where you can rest, shower, and refresh after the long journey. In the evening, we’ll gather for dinner, reflect on the day’s adventures, and enjoy some hearty local cuisine.

Naryn - Kel Suu

After breakfast, we’ll set off on a remote drive deep into the Ak-Sai Valley, making our way toward the breathtaking Kel Suu Lake, located near the Chinese border. This area is truly off the grid — wild, untouched, and far from any signs of modern life.

Once we arrive, we’ll settle into our basic wilderness camp, surrounded by vast, snow-covered landscapes. From here, we’ll begin a short but stunning horseback ride (approx. 2km) across frozen ground and icy trails, leading us right to the shores of Kel Suu.

Expect intense cold — this is true high-altitude winter, but the beauty is unmatched. As we arrive, you’ll have the opportunity to walk across the frozen lake, taking in the surreal sight of this glacial wonderland. Towering cliffs, hidden caves, frozen waterfalls, and jagged canyons frame the lake, making it feel like something out of a dream.

It’s a challenging day, but one that offers incredible reward — a once-in-a-lifetime experience in one of the most isolated and awe-inspiring places on Earth.

In the afternoon, we’ll head out to explore one of the cultural highlights of the region — a visit to a local handicraft community. Kochkor is renowned for its traditional felt-making, embroidery, and handwoven carpets, which are central to Kyrgyz nomadic heritage. Here, you’ll get to witness skilled artisans at work, learn about the centuries-old techniques, and perhaps even try your hand at crafting your own small piece.

We’ll round off the day with a traditional dinner at a local restaurant. If you’re feeling adventurous, this is your chance to try Kymyz — a fermented mare’s milk drink that holds a special place in Kyrgyz culture.
