About this trip

Nicaragua is one of the most diverse countries in Latin America, both culturally and biologically--but it is still in great need of support. Over 43% of their population lives in rural areas, and 68% of them are trying to survive on just over $1 per day. Overall, 46.2% of the population lives below the poverty line, which has lead to poor health and living conditions for families, and a stalled, fragile economy for their country.

We have partnered with a local hostel who has deep seeded roots in the local community of Jiquilillo. Together we have created an array of impact opportunities that will provide tangible, long-term support for the inhabitants.

Lunch for Locals: prepare and serve lunch for an underserved community living in Chinandenge landfill.

Peer-To-Peer Learning: head to the English Language Center for one-on-one volunteer tutoring, and assist teachers in daily coursework.

Help Build A Home: participate in a home build at the Villa Esperanza housing development center. Lay groundwork, sling hammers, and work alongside locals providing a stable place to call home.

Women's Collective: work together to plant a superfoods garden, join in workshops on health and wellness, and share knowledge on basic financial literary and entrepreneurship.

Environmental Awareness: explore Nicaragua's endangered mangroves and visit a local turtle estuary where we learn about their role in the ecosystem, why the are disappearing, why it matters & what we can do.

Our long-term goal is to visit the community multiple times throughout the year and provide continuous impact support to ensure the homes are finished on schedule, the children are advancing their education and the community is flourishing.
