Since pre- Hispanic times the lowlands of Guatemala (department of Petén), has been occupied by different Mayan groups, that through the years were able to accomplish one of the most important cultures in the world.
The archaeological site of Tikal is the second biggest and most excavated site in the Maya area. Since 1956 the University of Pennsylvania has mapped and excavated an area of 16 square kilometers, finding more than 3,000 ancient structures.
In our tour we will appreciate temples, palaces, pyramids, residential homes, stelas, ball courts and causeways that are evidence of the importance and monumental history of the Maya Culture
