      About this trip

Join Blue Planet for a week of world-class diving in Tobago. Just north of Venezuela and south of Grenada, this modest island is home to just over 50,000 people. But its small size belies its reputation for big diving. With hard and soft corals, macro critters and pelagics, there's something for everyone. Plus hiking, paddling, nesting sea turtles and more topside adventures!

      Tobago

Tobago offers many experiences for the discriminating scuba diver. With dive sites for every experience level, the healthy reefs feature both hard and soft coral and provide the chance to view some of the largest recorded brain corals in the world. However, it isn’t just the reefs that drive divers to this location — the marine life is also varied and abundant, with macro photography being a favorite activity. There are also thrilling drift dives fueled by the nutrient-rich Guyana Current which offer the opportunity to swim with pelagics!

      The Diving

Minimum dive certification/experience:  Better for experienced divers (Advanced Open Water Diver and up).

From hawksbill turtles to moray eels, octopuses to eagle rays, divers can interact with more than 300 species of marine life. In addition to the more common fish life, divers can also spot rare dwarf angelfish such as the cherub and flameback. The big animals are also often out in force and can include schooling jacks, scalloped hammerhead sharks and manta rays.

      Other Activities

On land, Tobago is a nature lover’s paradise with hiking through the forest and bird watching being popular with many visitors. You can also kite board, surf, wind surf, kayak or stand up paddle. We may be able to catch sea turtles nesting on the beach at night!

      Coco Reef Tobago

Our hotel, Coco Reef, is situated on the beautiful southwestern coast of Tobago in the town of Crown Point.  Tranquil turquoise waters caress the white sands of their private beach with magnificent snorkeling just outside the breakwater. Enjoy kayaking, pedalos, tennis, gym, in-house shopping, massages, manicures, pedicures and much more.

Another great trip with Blue Planet! BP worked with the Aggressor office and the boat staff to ensure our safety during Hurricane Beryl. All guests were safe and we had a great time inland. Anthony provided a clear outline of next steps and options.

This was my first livaboard experience, and the crew of the Aggressor III went above and beyond all expectations to ensure we had a great time in spite of having to put us ashore early on account of Hurricane Beryl. The diving was moderately challenging for me, forcing me to contend with some surface current, without seeming overwhelming. It forced me be more thoughtful and aware of what was happening, in order to anticipate the movement of the boat and get back aboard smoothly. After three days of excellent diving, including the Great Blue Hole, and other dive sites, during which I completed my Deep Specialty Certification, and encountered sharks for the first time, the captain was compelled to take us to shore by the Belizian government. There they set us up to shelter in a hotel in the Belizian highlands, along with two excellent crewmembers, Terrilyn and Ruth as well as a tour bus driver who proved the be especially knowledgeable about Mayan archeology. Our dive trip transformed into a jungle exploration trip! With the plan having been rendered irrelevant by present circumstances, the ship's crew members and the driver became not just staff taking care of us, but valuable team members for helping us navigate Belize. Ruth in particular proved excellent having grown up in the area where we sheltered. As the weather situation evolved, we set out into the jungle and went zip lining, explored the ecological richness of the Belizian wetlands and rivers, and admired Mayan ruins from afar. Adventures often do not go according to plan and the crew of the Aggressor III proved to be exceptional in their ability to adapt to uncertain and rapidly changing circumstances. In the course of doing so they provided us with what I would argue was a more rich experience than I suspect we'd have had if we'd only dove the whole time. Future liveaboard crews will have a difficult time exceeding the adaptability demonstrated by the Aggressor III's crew on this trip. I will miss them.

Jen and Ryan were so welcoming and awesome! I had a great time on the trip and hope to visit again. They were very conscientious of dietary restrictions and able to adjust plans on the fly if needed. The Blue Planet Team was great as always. Definitely looking forward to more trips.
