About your trip

When the Stars Align: A Journey Through Shadow and Light

There are moments when the earth, the sky, and your own path align in a way that feels intentional. This is one of them.

We invite you to step back to the very beginning—to the Camino Primitivo—the original Camino de Santiago blazed by King Alfonso II in the 9th century.

But this isn't just a trek through history; it’s a front-row seat to a celestial masterpiece.

As you traverse the emerald peaks of Asturias, the sun will surrender to the moon, casting a rare solar eclipse over a route that has guided seekers for over a millennium.

Why This Journey?

The Primitive Way isn't just a trail; it’s a 321 km "Hero’s Journey" that demands your best and rewards you with more than just a destination. On foot, by horseback, and via e-bike, you are participating in a spiritual legacy that predates almost every other pilgrimage in the world.

  • The Challenge: Conquer the rugged slopes and misty valleys that tested kings.

  • The Reward: Discover hidden Romanesque churches, silent stone bridges, and the golden glow of a sunset in a Galician village. Prepare to see the Camino in a whole new light, an experience that is as genuine as it is unforgettable.

  • The Gastronomy: Refuel with the soul-warming flavors of Northern Spain—where every meal is a celebration of the land.

  • The Event: Experience the profound silence of a solar eclipse in one of Europe’s last truly "genuine" rural landscapes.

La esencia del Camino

“The Primitive Way is the origin. It is where the purpose began. To walk it during an eclipse is to witness the world reset while you find your own new beginning.”

More than just a trail, this is a confluence of physical endurance and ancient devotion. Every mile carries the invisible weight of centuries of pilgrimage, a spiritual resonance left behind by those who sought meaning here. Whether you come for the athletic feat or the cultural depth, you are stepping into a story far larger than yourself.

The only question is: Are you ready for the Camino?

Remarks

The hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking routes are adapted to all levels, but a certain level of fitness and endurance is necessary to be able to face all the stages successfully.

The level is designed for people accustomed to physical activity, but it is not necessary to have previous experience in this type of hiking or biking.

Previous riding experience is recommended but not essential. Our horses are highly trained and accustomed to carrying loads through rugged landscapes; however, having a basic comfort level on horseback will make the mountain trails much more enjoyable for you.

Welcome to Asturias

¡Bienvenidos a Asturias!

You have arrived in Oviedo, the beautiful and ancient capital of the Principality of Asturias.

If you have time, its historic center is well worth a stroll through its streets and squares.

After check-in, we will meet you at a selected restaurant to get to know each other, have the first briefing of the trip, and begin to taste the local culinary delights.

MEALS INCLUDED: Dinner

Day 1 - Aug 9th

Day 1 - Aug 9th image

The King’s Inaugural Steps

OVIEDO - GRADO
Distance:
25,8 Km

The journey begins exactly where history intended: at the doorstep of the San Salvador Cathedral in Oviedo. Starting on foot isn't just a choice; it’s an homage to the "canons" of the pilgrimage. This is the moment you transition from the buzz of the city to the rhythmic crunch of boots on earth, joining a global community of walkers bound by a common goal.

The Ritual: Each quaint chapel along the way isn't just a photo op; it’s a milestone where you’ll collect the ink stamps (the sellos) that tell the story of your progress

We trade the trail for the table in Grado. Here, the physical demands of the day meet their match in Asturian gastronomy. Think hearty stews, local cheeses, and the kind of hospitality that only exists in towns where time has decided to slow down.

Pro Tip: Keep your credential handy. That first stamp in Oviedo is the start of a document you'll treasure for a lifetime.

MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, dinner.

FREE MEALS along the Way—we will suggest the best options.

Day 2 - Aug 10th

Day 2 - Aug 10th image

The Rhythm of the River and the Rise of the Hills

GRADO- SALAS
Distance:
24,9 Km

If Day 1 was the "handshake" with the Camino, Day 2 is the deep conversation. Today, your legs might remind you that "Primitive" is an ancient word for "we don't believe in flat ground," but the scenery provides the perfect distraction. We leave Grado behind, trading the town square for the deep, mossy greens of the Nonaya River valley.

The Highlights of the Stage:

  • The Monastery of Cornellana: About halfway through, you’ll stumble upon the Monastery of San Salvador. It’s a 10th-century masterpiece that feels like it’s holding its breath, waiting for you to walk through its Romanesque arches. It’s the perfect spot to catch your breath and reflect on the millions who sat in this exact shade before you.

  • The "Asturian Flat": You’ll quickly learn that in Asturias, "flat" is just a myth we tell tourists. You’ll be navigating undulating forest paths and steady climbs, but the reward is the silence—broken only by the sound of your own boots and the distant chime of cowbells.

  • The Medieval Jewel: We end the day in Salas, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the region. Walking under its stone arches feels like stepping directly into a historical drama, minus the heavy armor.

The Gastronomic Goal: Carajitos

You can't leave Salas without trying the Carajitos del Profesor. These are local hazelnut cookies that have been fueling pilgrims since... well, since people realized hazelnuts and sugar are the ultimate mountain-climbing fuel. Trust us, your hamstrings will thank you.

MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, dinner.

The Ascent to the High Plateau

SALAS - TINEO
Distance:
20,2 Km

If Day 2 was a conversation, Day 3 is a statement. Today, we leave the valley floor and head for the heights. This stage is famous for the "Cuesta del Reigada"—a climb that will certainly wake up your calves, but it’s also the moment you truly feel like a mountain pilgrim. You aren’t just walking through Asturias anymore; you’re rising above it.

The Day’s Highlights:

  • The Great Climb: Leaving Salas means heading up. As you ascend through scented pine and eucalyptus forests, keep looking back. The view of the valley shrinking beneath you is the ultimate "I did that" moment.

  • La Espina: This high-altitude crossroads is where the air feels thinner and the spirit feels lighter. It’s a classic pilgrim stop-off to grab a café con leche and swap stories with those who’ve survived the morning climb alongside you.

  • The "Balcony of Asturias": We finish in Tineo, a town perched on a hillside like it's watching over the rest of the world. The views from the San Roque field are legendary—on a clear day, the horizon feels infinite.

The Gastronomic Reward: Chosco de Tineo

You’ve earned your calories today. Tineo is the capital of Chosco, a traditional smoked and cured meat that is local pride on a plate. Pair it with some boiled potatoes and a glass of Asturian cider, and those 20 kilometers will feel like a distant, happy memory.

The Eclipse Countdown 🌒

As we reach the higher elevations of Tineo, notice the openness of the landscape. We are moving away from the dense valley forests and onto the ridges. This is prime "Sky-Watching" territory. If the eclipse were to happen right now, you’d have an unobstructed 360-degree view of the shadow racing across the Cantabrian peaks.

MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, dinner.

FREE MEALS along the Way—we will suggest the best options.

High Altitude Majesty

TINEO - BERDUCEDO
Time:
6 h.

Today, we trade the rhythmic "thump-thump" of hiking boots for the steady, powerful cadence of hooves. If walking the Camino is a conversation with the earth, riding it is a dialogue with history. King Alfonso II didn’t walk this path—he rode it—and as you mount your horse in Tineo, you’re stepping directly into his stirrups.

This is arguably the most spectacular and spiritually charged stage of the entire Primitivo.

The Highlights of the Ride:

  • The Roof of the World: We bypass the valleys and take the legendary Ruta de los Hospitales. This is the highest point of the Camino, a ridge-top trail where the wind carries the ghosts of medieval pilgrims. On horseback, you’ll feel like a conqueror as you navigate these high-altitude pastures.

  • The "Hospitales" Ruins: You’ll ride past the ruins of 9th-century hospitals—ancient shelters built to protect pilgrims from the very elements you’re currently enjoying. There is a profound silence up here that only the sound of a horse’s breath can truly complement.

  • Wild Company: Don’t be surprised if you see the Asturcones (wild Asturian ponies) watching you from the crags. It’s a moment of "horse-to-horse" recognition that makes you feel like part of the landscape rather than just a visitor.

  • The Descent to Berducedo: After the exhilarating heights of the Sierra de Fanfaraón, we begin a gentle descent into the quiet, stone-clad village of Berducedo, tucked away like a secret in the mountains.

The Eclipse Connection 🌑

Positioned in one of the globe’s most pristine viewing locations, we will prepare for the arrival of the eclipse with both safety and spirit in mind. After distributing certified protective glasses, we will convene for a primitive ceremony to welcome the darkness. It is an invitation to witness a celestial marvel not just as spectators, but as part of an ancient human tradition

Post-Ride Recovery:

After a day in the saddle, your legs might feel a bit like cooked noodles, but your spirit will be soaring.

  • The Reward: A hearty Pote Asturiano (a rich bean and cabbage stew) and a local cider.

  • The Vibe: Berducedo is a tiny village where the stars (and the eclipse) shine brighter because there’s no city light to compete with them.

    MEALS INCLUDED:
    Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day 5 - Aug 13th

The hidden Asturia

BERDUCEDO - GRANDAS DE SALIME
Time: 5 h.

Today, we embrace the elegance of the Middle Ages. Riding the Camino on horseback isn't just a "tour"; it’s a revival of a royal tradition. In the centuries past, kings, nobles, and high-ranking clergy arrived in Galicia in the saddle—and today, so do you.

Mounting up in Berducedo, you’ll immediately understand why this is the ultimate way to conquer the Primitivo's most challenging terrain. While others watch their feet, you’ll be looking out over the horizon.

The Highlights of the Ride:

  • Conquering the Slopes: This stage is famous for its dramatic elevation changes. On horseback, the "dreaded" descents and climbs become a rhythmic dance. You’ll feel the power of your horse as you navigate the winding paths that lead toward the grand Navia River.

  • The Salime Dam: One of the most breathtaking sights of the entire trip. Emerging from the forest on horseback to see the massive reservoir and the emerald water below is a cinematic moment that feels like something out of an epic film.

  • Trotting Through Time: Led by our specialist local guides, you’ll alternate between a steady walk, a rhythmic trot, and an exhilarating gallop through ancient oak forests and meadows where the air smells of wild heather and pine.

A Royal Reception:

Our guides don't just know the trails; they know the stories. As you ride, they’ll share the secrets of these hidden Asturian villages. We’ve planned the day to ensure you have plenty of time to:

  • Rest & Reflect: Frequent stops to let the horses drink and for you to soak in the silence.

  • Savor the Flavors: A midday break to enjoy local delicacies that have fueled riders for generations.

  • Connect: Share stimulating conversations with your fellow "noble" travelers and the locals as you approach the stone streets of Grandas de Salime.

    MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Crossing the Threshold

GRANDAS DE SALIME - FONSAGRADA
Time:
5 h.

Today is a day of frontiers. We leave the mist-shrouded valleys of Asturias behind and cross the symbolic border into Galicia. On horseback, this transition feels like a true conquest. You’ll spend the day ascending the legendary Puerto del Acebo, a mountain pass that has tested the resolve of every pilgrim since the 9th century.

While the climb is legendary for its difficulty, from the saddle, it is pure exhilaration.

The Highlights of the Ride:

  • The Great Ascent: Leaving the shores of the Salime reservoir, we begin a steady climb toward the clouds. Your horse’s powerful stride makes light work of the steep slopes, allowing you to focus entirely on the shifting landscape as the vegetation changes from dense Asturian forests to the rugged, gorse-covered peaks of Galicia.

  • The Border Crossing: There is a specific magic in crossing from one region to another at Alto del Acebo. Reaching the stone marker on horseback, you’ll feel the weight of history—you are now officially in the land of the Apostle.

  • 360° Panoramic Gallops: Once we reach the high plateaus, the terrain opens up. Guided by our local experts, this is the perfect place to enjoy a controlled gallop across the ridges, with the wind in your face and the world at your feet.

The Peak of the Experience: A Fonsagrada

We finish our journey in A Fonsagrada, the highest town on the entire Primitive Way. At nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, the air is crisp, the stone houses are sturdy, and the hospitality is legendary.

  • The Must-Eat: You’ve crossed into Galicia, which means one thing: Pulpo á Feira. Legend says the best octopus in Galicia is actually found here, in the mountains of A Fonsagrada, rather than on the coast.

  • The View: From this altitude, you’ll look back at the mountains you’ve just conquered with a profound sense of "The Hero’s Journey."

MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day 7 - Aug 15th

Day 7 - Aug 15th image

The Electric Charge

FONSAGRADA - LUGO
Distance: 54.3 Km

Today, we embrace the future! After days of ancient paths and steady climbs, it’s time to shift gears.

We trade the saddle for the handlebars as we begin our final descent toward the heart of Galicia. Get ready to discover the e-bike: the joy of pedaling with extra power. It's important to remember that it's still an active sport; you pedal and the bike rewards you. It's the ideal way to conquer slopes without exhaustion preventing you from enjoying the scenery.

The Highlights of the Ride:

  • Smooth Power: While Galicia’s landscape becomes "gentler," it is still famously undulating. The e-bike’s motor provides the perfect assist, allowing you to conquer the rolling terrain without losing your breath. You’ll still feel the effort in your legs—it’s a pilgrimage, after all—but your pedaling will be smooth and rhythmic.

  • Focus on the Soul: Because the bike handles the heavy lifting, your mind is free. Instead of focusing on the steepness of the next slope, you can focus on the spiritual and cultural pulse of the trail: the scent of eucalyptus, the sound of the wind through the pines, and the stone hamlets that dot the way.

  • The Descent into History: The highlight of the day is our arrival in Lugo. Gliding toward the city on two wheels, you’ll be greeted by the most impressive sight in Roman Spain: the Muralla de Lugo. These perfectly preserved 2nd-century walls wrap around the city like a stone crown.

The Eclipse Connection 🌑

As we reach Lugo, we are entering one of the most strategic locations for the 2026 Solar Eclipse. The wide, open views from the Roman walls provide a 360-degree theater for the celestial event. Imagine leaning your e-bike against a 2,000-year-old stone rampart as the sky begins to dim into a deep, midday twilight.

The Reward: Lugo’s "Tapas" Culture

In Lugo, the saying goes: "Y para comer, Lugo" (And for eating, Lugo). After a day of exhilarating cycling, the city’s vibrant gastronomy awaits. Every drink comes with a generous tapa—the perfect fuel to celebrate your first day in the province.

MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, lunch

FREE DINNER in Lugo. We will suggest the best places to enjoy tapas together, or you can explore your favorite spot in the city.

¡Buen Camino!

LUGO - MELIDE
Distance:
47,8 Km

Today, the energy of the Camino shifts. After days of the rugged solitude found on the Primitive Way, your e-bike carries you toward a historic intersection. We leave the Roman shadows of Lugo behind, pedaling through the heart of the Galician countryside toward Melide—the sacred point where the Camino Primitivo finally merges with the legendary French Way.

The Highlights of the Ride:

  • The Flow of the Path: With the e-bike’s motor humming quietly beneath you, the "Galician ups and downs" become a playful rhythm. You’ll glide through deep "corredoiras"—ancient stone-walled paths shaded by century-old oak trees—feeling the transition from the wild mountains to the pastoral heart of the region.

  • The Joining of Streams: As we approach Melide, you’ll notice the trail getting busier. There is a palpable surge of emotion as you join the river of pilgrims arriving from the French Way. You are no longer a lone traveler; you are part of a global movement, all pedaling and walking toward the same ancient star.

  • The Pulse of the Camino: This stage is about connection. You’ll pass more "chiringuitos" (pilgrim stops) and lively stone villages, where the "Buen Camino!" greeting becomes a constant, uplifting soundtrack to your journey.

The Gastronomic Landmark: Pulpo á Feira

You simply cannot pass through Melide without a stop at a traditional pulpería. Melide is the undisputed capital of Galician Octopus.

  • The Ritual: Watch the "pulpeiras" copper cauldrons steam as they prepare the octopus with olive oil, coarse salt, and pimentón.

  • The Fuel: Served on a wooden plate with a piece of crusty Galician bread, it is the ultimate "slow food" to power your final stretch.

MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Day 9 - Aug 17th

Day 9 - Aug 17th image

The Grand Finale

MELIDE - SANTIAGO
Distance:
53 Km

The air feels different today. This is the final push, the last 50 kilometers of a 321 km "Hero’s Journey." As you mount your e-bike in Melide, there’s a shared sense of excitement in the air. The destination isn't just a city anymore; it’s a reality waiting at the end of the track.

The Highlights of the Final Ride:

  • The Sacred Flow: Riding through the fragrant eucalyptus forests of the Galician "Terra de Santiago," the e-bike allows you to maintain a steady, meditative pace. You’ll glide past the Monte do Gozo (Mount of Joy), where you’ll catch your first, heart-stopping glimpse of the Cathedral towers in the distance.

  • The Entrance of a Hero: Descending into the medieval streets of Santiago, the sound of your tires on the cobblestones signals the end of the physical effort. You’ll navigate the narrow granite alleys until the space opens up into the breathtaking Plaza del Obradoiro.

  • The Moment of Arrival: Propping up your bike and standing before the towering Baroque façade of the Cathedral is an experience words often fail to capture. Here, you’ll collect your Compostela, the official certificate that proves you’ve followed in the footsteps of kings.

The Farewell Dinner: A Celebration of the Soul

After the emotion of the Plaza and a well-deserved rest, we gather for our Farewell Dinner. This isn't just a meal; it’s a celebration of every mountain climbed, every horse trotted, and every kilometer pedaled.

  • The Menu: A final immersion into Galician excellence. Expect fresh seafood from the Rías Baixas, local Albariño wine, and the iconic Tarta de Santiago—the almond cake adorned with the Cross of Saint James.

  • The Reflection: As we toast to our success, we’ll look back on the extraordinary timing of our trip. We didn't just complete a pilgrimage; we did it under the shadow of a total solar eclipse, a celestial alignment that mirrored our own internal journey of transformation.

“We started as travelers; we finish as pilgrims. The road has changed us, the stars have watched over us, and tonight, the City of the Apostle is our home.”

MEALS INCLUDED: Breakfast, lunch, farewell dinner at a specially selected restaurant.
